If they throw away the dots they could pump up summon damage a whole lot. Might even feel good.So this is coming from the viewpoint of an absolute smooth brain DRG main. But doesn't SMN feel like it's about to burst with how much it's getting? Like something is gotta give with it right? DoT management, Pet Management, the longest rotation on a class, and the highest penalty for error margin on a dps. So if the dev team decided to rebuild the class by scrapping something, what would mains' of SMN be the most comfortable losing? From my PoV I feel like DoT is a no Brain to scrap and rework the job from there no?
But I feel like an aspect players enjoy is the AoE DoT spread.

Some people like a "busy" job which is why the play it. The biggest complaint from main SMN isn't all the stuff, just that it doesn't really flow well together like it could. DoT management is easy because most of the time you use Tri-D to apply and maybe one hard cast of Miasma/Bio during the rotation. Also DoT allow you more pet control because you don't have to worry about background DPS as much, set it and forget it for 30s. Another thing to consider is that Egi Assault share 2.5s cooldown timer with spells so it you can either cast a EgA or Ruin; if you want more of one you have to do less of the other. So this is coming from the viewpoint of an absolute smooth brain DRG main. Ideally it should be a 50%, 35% 15% split between damage sources. Pets (Egi & Demi) would be 50%, Ruin/Spells 35%, DoTs 15%. Currently DoT at about 15%, pets are 30%, Ruin 3/4 being 25%, and the rest spells/abilities (Fester, BoP, FoF, Tri-D, ED, etc).
Oh and yea, SMN is my go too dungeon job because of all the yummy AoE damage. Don't ruin that for me ><

Having gone back to playing SMN, which is by no means a main for me, I feel like they should do away with the dots and just add more egi attack skills. It feels more thematic to be attacking through your summon.
And yes, the Egi models are well overdue for an upgrade.

What if... plot twist... the new Maiming job is a dot focused one and those elements will move from SMN the way DNC swooped in and BRD lost a lot of support skills.

Then either SMN will complain about losing DoTs or the die hard "insert new job" will complain because they didn't want it to be a DoT job XD
But's it fair to remember BRD got a good amount of there support skills back, mainly the song bonuses. BRDs were pissed and rightfully so.

I just hope we get some cohesion in this class.
Honestly though... I dont understand the fascination with DoTs, so take my comment with a grain of salt. I'm someone who would be glad to see them gone.
If the class design is as typical as I think it will be the new melee dps will have at least 1 DoT just like the rest of the melee classes.

Summoner is hilariously awkward.
1-50: Your a class that wants to have a focus on some dots, a bunch of pet stuff, oh and ruin spells to go with your dots.
50-60: You stopped caring about your summons and went all in on trying to imitate black mage.
60-70: You realized your pets existed again, used them to fuel your ruin spells, and you finally figured out how to establish a connection with a new summon of bahamut
70-80: "I'm sure Alphinaud and Alisaie won't mind if I get an egi of Phoenix."
There was an interesting interview done by Mr Happy with Yoshida and in that conversation he brought up Summoner, specifically Egi-glamour. I thought Yoshi's answer was very interesting for what's to come.
His answer: "Currently summoner as a job is reaching somewhat of a breaking point when it comes to the overall play mechanics, so we've halted work on Egi glamour for the time being in order to shift focus. There is a reason behind this, but we can't share the details with you at the moment. When the time comes, I'll be sure to properly share that information with everyone."
That could mean a lot of things, such as either significant changes to the way egis work to outright removal of them. What do you guys think it could mean? No theory is too crackpot.
