SMN is definitely the job I'm gonna be looking at the changes for first...
It was my first job, but I've since basically dropped it and I'm hoping I can rock it once more.

Yeah me too. I truly hope they do us justice. Not just add another Demi-primal and give us a whole bunch of trait upgrades and call it a day.
How about removing Energy Drain and Energy Siphon?

I'm honestly expecting Fester and Painflare to retire as well. At this point, they are about as much vestigial limbs as ED/ES are. Why not make room to try and smooth out and expand upon the actual trance/summon rotation?

Actually, it's Scholar the one that moved the furthest away from its Arcanist roots (although, not completely).
Which makes sense considering its role.
Else, if they intend to change Summoner further, they will have to look deeper into Arcanist itself.
Forever waiting on *new* Egis/summons (e.g. Ramuh-Egi).

I'd prefer to have the big summons on a gauge like MCH. I love that Phoenix can heal but the timing is too static.

True. Summoner still has about 14 abilities tied to arcanist while scholar has like 4-5? So yeah scholar might be the one heading out.

To me all four can stay around, just with the energy skills acting as low level variants of Fester/Painflare, which are then given upgrades during the Bahamut phase in order to distinguish it from Phoenix come 6.0. This is mostly to keep the ability prune and lack of balancing for ARR from being a complete turn off to new players that want to pick up Arcanist, which I think is a problem they’re going to walk into in the long run.
I still think that Aetherflow should return to Arcanist too, for the benefits it gives to both of its Job paths at low and high levels alike. The only other option I would approve of is implementing charges on Trance, but capping it to one initially on zone change/reset. The ‘single charge pre-combat’ change is something I’ve admittedly wanted on all classes in general since Stormblood just to shift the raid window dynamics a bit, rather than converting everyone to static 2-minute rotations as has been suggested elsewhere.
