Who else here grew up on FF? Or did you come here because WoW?
Is FFXIV better than the single player FFs, in your opinion?

I've been an FF fan most of my life, so that's half of it for me. The other half is getting into MMOs. I didn't start with FF XI, but FF XI was probably my first true MMO experience, and it was glorious. After a time, and many memories were made, I left for WoW which was halfway through Wrath of the Lich King, where I spent most days playing it up until the tail end of MoP. When the open beta for FF XIV ARR opened up I was literally gone from WoW for 6 months. lol Like, WoW had never really crossed my mind. Since then I've had a love/hate relationship with WoW, but always go back to it at points. I find myself playing FF XIV much more often nowadays, especially after being burned by Shadowlands. But I'm here and enjoying myself, at least for the most part. If I wasn't I wouldn't be here. WoW is testament to that. Is FF XIV better than single player FFs? Depends on the title. It certainly has more replay value than most of them at least with it being an MMORPG and all.
Lifetime fan. I played the first one on NES when I was like 8.
MMO and single player are a completely different experience. Though I do think Shadowbringers is about as close as an MMO can get to the single player experience. But a single player game still gives you (well, not some of the recent entries, but still) the full package all at once, rather than being a service where you get a continuing and evolving story over time like an MMO. Though, again, if they keep up with their recent structure, then maybe XIV will surpass the newest single player games since SE has adopted their "games as a service" mentality with the more recent entries.
I'm hoping Yoshi-P's influence will keep XVI from being parsed out to us in pieces. Or have things removed to put in DLC.
A little bit of VII, VIII, X, XII, XIII, XIII-2, XIII-3: Lighting Returns, XIV, & XV

I played FF games when I was a kid, and I played a lot of WoW during my teenage years.
I was really into the story content of WoW during MoP, but then Chris Metzen left and the writing went downhill, and the actual gameplay of WoW became more mediocre as time went on, so I dropped WoW.
As for FFXIV being compared to the singleplayer games... it depends. I feel that I am the most invested in the overall storyline and world of FFXIV out of all of the mainline games. However most of the singleplayer games have less bloat and flow more smoothly. FFXIV is also somewhat hamstrung by its MMO format.
Let's see I sit on my cousin lap when he played ff games tactics,5-6 7 8 9 then I got into them went back and played and beat all of them expect 1-3 I even beat 2 lol..
That said
Ff15 is trash 4 a final fantasy lol
13 is meha decent at best
Used to be a fan but not anymore, haven't been for years really as I moved on to other franchises by now (Legend of Heroes, Shin Megami Tensei, and so on).
The reason why I play (or played) this game is mostly because it reminded me of wow (same combat but slower, same stats, same tab targetting, but i liked the multi-class idea), but it was a little newer. Wow tired me anyway, as I did everything i wanted by now, but this game had some fresher paint of coat and I liked it.
As for being a better than the single player....no comment.
