You're right, they're asking for something to be added to the game that doesn't exist for any other skill and may not even be possible with the way the game is currently set up. Let's talk about that.
Yes, asking to add something very simple to the game that another more successful MMO has already added to address the exact same problem with the exact same ability. Wouldn't kill this game to occasionally learn from it's more successful peers.
It's a matter of perspective. In statics and for people who want randoms to decide their position for them sure, and they can leave the toggle on. For myself and many others, I would find the ability to be more useful if it simply weren't used on me.

I wasn't aware that MMO devs shared source code and built their games entirely the same way and can just be like, "hey can I borrow that?" and just slap it on with a glue stick. Come on, guy. It doesn't work that way.
MMOs borrow ideas all the time. The game as is wouldn't exist without that.
Never said it did, but this isn't some complicated foreign concept to the game they need to figure out. Arms length already does this and the game is clearly capable of differentiating between friendly targets and enemies. Activating an Arms Length type effect when a friendly unit casts a reposition effect on you is all that's required.
Pretending the devs aren't competent enough to work with functionality that already exists in their game is just silly.
The toggle idea is perfect and is already used in a far bigger MMO.Because the toggle idea is stupid so people came up with the only obvious alternative. Aside from someone that suggested a .5 second cast time. I kinda like that idea. Then everyone can bitch about how nobody should be expected to hit arm's length in a 1 second window to stop from getting yoinked and other people can just tell them "git gud".
You're just avoiding discussing the toggle because you can't argue it; there's no downside. So instead you change the discussion to Rescue being removed, which is something you can actually figure out a way to argue against. It's called creating a strawman.
I guess I'll play your game and respond to that with "never said they are".Never said it did, but this isn't some complicated foreign concept to the game they need to figure out. Something that only stops a party member from interacting with you is such an unnecessary thing to have, and can be used for trolling just as much. I believe at least one EX or Savage fight strat involves Rescuing someone during a phase change or something? I'm not too familiar with it. So people could troll during that by toggling it so they can't be Rescued, possibly causing a wipe. And then we'd have threads about that too. "People join my PF groups and troll with Rescue toggle", I can see it now.
But while we're at it, can we have a heal toggle too? I don't want people wasting DPS uptime on me when I'm playing PLD when I can just use Clemency.
Don't worry, I've got them covered on that argument.
People have already mentioned several reasons why it doesn't sound like a good solution. First, it makes the skill essentially worthless, so you may as well just take it off the hotbar if people are going to be turning it off anyway. Second, it so rarely comes into effect where it's a 'troll' that it really shouldn't be making people's panties get in a wad. Third, does that mean we should be adding toggles to every player interaction that could either inconvenience us or get us killed through no fault of our own?The toggle idea is perfect and is already used in a far bigger MMO.

Tell me about this other game and how it works and maybe it'll make more sense rather than just SAYING it works. I have no clue what game you're even talking about.
One duty finder I had an annoying healer who used Rescue as a way to try and rush me through the dungeon. I used Arm's Length a lot in that instance.
