I know I’m probably overthinking this. One of y’all please tell me that my worries over being stabbed in the back are not coming true.
I think the remaining sane Garleans are probably desperate enough to readily accept any help that comes their way in light of the crazy circumstances they've been thrust into.

Considering how quickly the beast tribes did a turn around despite being at odds with the locals for even longer then the Garleans have, I think they'd rather swallow their pride and side with the "savages" then lose what little they have left, especially with the suggestion that Fandaniel was intending to exploit the local populace to fuel his "gate of the gods". They're likely fighting just to survive, not to try to retake the capital.

I don't think the Garleans that remain are going to be picky about the help that they receive and they're likely already holding down whatever fortifications they still control only to lean on the Warrior of Light when he shows up to deal with Zenos and Fandaniel. There's a good chance a lot of soldiers and civilians will take the Regula approach and put aside any grudges for the sake of mutual benefit. We've already seen it established in the lorebook that Garleans are a pragmatic people and they're based largely off of the Romans who also adjusted their society as required of the circumstances.

I'm not sure how I feel about Garlemald having access to highly advanced cars, though. It fits nicely with the apocalyptic vibe with abandoned vehicles sitting around but it feels very 'tacked on' when Cid already questioned Noctis about their existence. It also feels a little cheap, since one of the plot devices established was that Garlemald could not transport supplies to the defiant provinces to keep a hold over them. If roads had been established between them, though...

I guess 'rule of cool' is the intention for the story moving forward on many fronts.

It has also been...if we ignore the time bubble, 8-9 years since Cid left Garlemald? Remember how fast technology advanced in the real world in that time frame? We went from 32MB floppy disks in the mid to late 90s to 1-2 GB flash drives in the mid 00s. Technology moves fast, and depending on how smart the people who were moving it, seeing cars is very possible. Plus they WERE reverse engineering Allagan tech (who had spaceships), and created the Weapons, cloning tech, etc. Garlemald's tech has been quickly upgrading over the years, it's no surprise to me that they have actual cars.

Also Garlemald's capital having cars does not necessitate that functional roads for them exist between their cities. Keeping all the cool stuff for the purebloods in the capital would be very Garlean.

The streets of Garlean Capital also looked like streets made to be use by cars as well when we first saw them during 5.0/5.X

If it was more on a normal day in the Garlean Captial, the street may have been filled with cars, along with traffic, like a city in our world.

however, with probably 95% of the Garlean Captial now destroyed, we can't really understand how life may have looked liked in the Garlean Empire before it was destroyed. Maybe get a small picture of it as we explore what remains but never really the true scope of a Garlean Civilian life.

Hopefully it is something they can show in the Show that they said was in the works, also we can have a Fine ill do it my self moment and just use the FF XV car mount. I would still like to see what the capitol looked like before it was destroyed one day to get a better idea of what it looks like in all the cutscenes there.

Been longer than that. According to page 195 of Encyclopedia Eorzea Vol. I:

Cid Garlond established the Ironworks in 1562, so that magitek technology might spread throughout Eorzea, lessening the Garlean Empire's dangerous monopoly on the science.
In addition, the timeline on page 53 has the following:

1563 - Highwind Skyways announces a partnership with Garlond Ironworks, a collaboration which soon bears fruit in the form of a lightweight airship model fueled by a ceruleum propulsion engine. With this new technology, Highwind Skyways begins offering regular passenger service connecting the three major city-states.
So, Cid left Garlemald and founded the Garlond Ironworks in 1562, began actively working with the Eorzean city-states in 1563, the Seventh Umbral Calamity happens in 1572, and ARR starts in 1577. By that time, Cid hasn't been to Garlemald in 15 years and that's completely ignoring time bubble shenanigans that start happening once ARR kicks off so it could be even longer by now. Cars being invented in the 15+ years since he left seems fair.

I just find it funny how small that car looks in the picture and how some of the soldiers with their huge armor would fit into those. I just had to grin a bit with that mental image.

Also typical Alisaie..not waiting until the tanks pulls first.

Can't remember who and in what thread right now, but someone said that Labyrinthos is a full blown zone and will have Fates.

For some reason that didn't click for me, but the more I think about it, the more it gnaws on my thought matter.

If that's true then I wonder...

Perhaps Endwalker won't follow the formula laid down by Heavensward. Perhaps instead of secondary antagonist build up we're going to kick down Endwalker's door starting with that.

Imagine if you will... Krile gets us into Sharlayan. G'raha Tia currently asserts that it's an impossible task, but he knows Krile will find a way. We see Y'shtola in the friggin' trailer saunters into the Forum of 99 and verbally witch slaps them. What if by starting the expansion in Sharlayan we actually spend the first few dungeons in Sharlayan bringing them to heel? What if they're having problems with end-times creatures or worse still, we catch wind that the Forum is going to wall off Labyrinthos to the Sharlayan commoners (it probably already is but...). What if we spend levels 81 to 83 beating the ever loving 7 Hells out of the Forum's military/secret services in Labyrinthos? And then some Forum members themselves? I'm sure they've no shortage of accomplished mage warriors however pacifistic they claim to be.

    What do you think?

    Could be interesting.

Given that they've always gotten us to the new main cities asap, even Kugane was pretty quick to get to and it was by far the longest, I expect we'll be in Old Sharlayan very early on. Maybe even the first place we go after some exposition at the rising stones.

And with Labyrinthos confirmed to be the field zone tied to Sharlayan, it makes sense it'd be one of the first zones we explore. Though I assume we'll get another two zone split in the msq, as they always do to split players up a bit. So I could see us doing at least the first half of Labyrinthos msq right away, with the other option probably being Thavnair or something.

I could be wrong of course, we could go to sharlayan early, and then get sent away to tinker around Garlemald and Thavnair first and then come back and discover Labyrinthos at like level 83 or 85 or something, but I have a feeling it's going to be an earlier zone. And there will need to be some kind of conflict in that zone... so maybe you're right.
