Right now i'm pretty sure the melee job will be a "reaper" type of job or at least use scythe weapon anyway, because during both the showcase and live letter Yoshida had shirts on with a "grim reaper" on, don't think that's by chance.

Ofc he could just be playing with us but well, we will find out.

As long as we are posting our wildest theories, here's mine.

In FFT, Holy Knights, Rune Knights, and Sword Saints can use an attack called "Northswain's Strike" (or "North-Star Bone Crushing Strike" in Japanese) which has a unique KO effect. Agrias Oaks and Thunder God Cid both use this ability in their FFXIV boss forms too. Here's a little trivia I read on the FF wiki about the ability:

The concept of Northswain's Strike's additional instant death effect refers to the Chinese deity of Northern Dipper associated with death whose role is similar to that of the Grim Reaper.
Therefore, the shirts hint that the next job will be Holy Knight/Rune Knight/Sword Saint.

Yoshi-P was wearing shirts with quotes from different rock musicians.

    Rock...

    Geomancer!

At least they exist in the universe if you think about astrologians and its storyline. Both are taking the energy from the stars. This fits good with the moon and space in endwalker

If you ignore the "melee" part sure, i can't remember any FF game that had geomancer as melee.

Except it's already established in FFXIV's lore that Geomancers are mages, specifically it's what the Domans call Conjury (with a little bit of AST thrown in) - GEO enemies show up in The Swallow's Compass. So GEO as the next Job is therefore out on multiple points I'm afraid.

Yeah, I know. I just wanted to reference FFT honestly.

Have not played FFT in 10+ years, so had to look it up and well you are right that they did use axe/swords.

To be fair, they have technically been melee in almost every game they have shown up in.

Even in XI where they were a support caster, they had a higher rating in maces than they did in Geomancy or handbell.

In regards to Geomancer in the 14 universe, the only two prominent/famous Geomancers that we have ANY information on were known for being master swordsmen as well as Geomancers. Ganen and Seiryu both are one handed sword and magical offhand users (handbelll and "Geomantic Orb" respectively).

And this isn't directed at you, but someone else brought up Conjury and Swallow's Compass. The only thing they have in common with Conjury is the elements they use, and I wasn't aware Conjurers (who dont even use the elements at higher levels) had a globally/shard encompassing lock on the elements. Which they don't even use anymore. Let alone the affinity for shikigami and exorcisms this time around. And The Sai Taisui in Swallow's don't actually have any interruptible casting, it's all magic damage melee and instant casts.

They purposefully left the class this open to take it whichever direction they wanted. It's also worth noting that there is actually nothing in game or in the lorebook stating "this is far eastern conjury" or "Doman's call conjury this". The closest we have is one line in the lorebook stating "scholars say it has similarities to conjury because of the use of wind, water and air." We also have Levava refer to Kyokohu and his school of magic as "Geomancy" not conjury. She knows what a conjurer is, she has met many of them, and she says nothing like "Oh hey far eastern conjurer", she knows they are separate schools of magic.

Rock and metal... Hahaha, maybe lol. That would be a bit evil of a hint though XD.

As for geomancer being a mage, or pre-existing lore. A while ago, and few times after, suggested Geoknight. A geomancer golbez, sauron (lotr), ex-death, etc inspired mage (the weapon I was suggesting being very similar to what Sage's ended up with).

What if they made a bulky new variant of geomancer? Still could also have some of the soul and or reaper vibes in a job like that (helping it further be not just a 'different' geomancer).

Heck we are going to the moon. What about a Lunar Knight. The moon having some dark elements, which give some precedence to the shirt (as well as the rock concept you brought up, moon is a great big rock lol). Why I liked Ranjit brought up was because they mentioned maiming gear and he was inspired by Golbez (heavy duty mage). Main reason I'm stuck on the idea the next job may be a bit higher in the magic is because a. Reaper I feel has some caster like vibes and b. Dragoon's heavy defense armor was partially explained (originally) by the nature they had to deal with jump mechanics. Not the most solid logic but just my thought on why I focus with some magic vibes.

Also lunar geo knight like concept would also line up into the rune/mystic knight and death knight like suggestions. I do feel a moon knight would fit well with a sycthe over say simply a rune knight (which one normally thinks swords, I think). Mystic knight inspired by the moon (or other reaper-y concepts) probably doesn't even need a relabel lol.
