I've wanted this feature for a while, even if it was limited to friends only or something that would still make social interactions a bit more engaging. Its not that people can't read the chat log, its just that its a bit boring for people that are used to the glory days of habbo hotel, and even WoW does this.

It's not like it's a relic of a bygone era.
I can't think of any relevant mmo right now that doesn't have this feature.
The lack of social interaction at a glance makes this world feel so dead.

Playing in party I can`t watch the chat all the time. Whell, maybe it`s not a big problem, but chat bubles seem to be familiar convenience, and comming to FF14 and seeing only chat log feels like downgrade.

I personally would really love this feature, I think all the MMOs I've played in the past have had bubbles and I miss them! Don't have a lot to add to the discussion, just wanted to voice my support.

Optional speech bubbles would be great for /say and /party. It would make the world more immersive for many players.

Can we please get this as an in-game feature? The existence of third-party add-ons that allow this means it's not a technical issue at all. It adds immersion and convenience and I don't understand why this was not added ages ago.
If people don't like it they can just switch it off and basic setting options like restricting bubbles to /say, /tell or /party already take familiarity / proximity into account to a useful degree.

The main problem is that the lack of this feature forces people who do RP to install and rely on 3rd party tools, which by definition cannot be controlled by Square Enix. That the absence of such a basic feature is a risk to the integrity of the game by encouraging non-official software is frankly ridiculous.

The existence of third-party add-ons means nothing. Third party developers are not bound by the same technical, financial, or executive constraints that the devs are and do not have a responsibility to ensure that any feature added works on all platforms and minimum supported spec machines without breaking anything. They have the freedom of not having to keep track of how many drawables the game can possibly draw on screen at once with all settings active and they only have to make their one feature works, without having to worry about how it will affect anything else in game. The XIV devs have rules they have to follow, soft limits they have to consider very carefully before stretching, and hard limits that they absolutely cannot break. If they could make chat bubbles work with the manual and technical resources they have available, they would have.

I give the devs enough credit to believe they can make a basic function such as chat bubbles work, and its something they should get working. With XIV as popular as it is now, more people than ever are going to start drawing comparisons between it and other games and small QOL features will start adding up; this is one of those features.

So i put my 2gil behind the idea of them making this work.

There is a plug-in for that, doesn't work 100% as you might think it should but for a simple addon it does its job.

-all text bubbles have the same duration
-the text bubble wobbles around while moving

but when i write to someone close to me i mostly look at their character instead of the chat and instantly see where they are.

Yes, it's hard to read names following messages especially when a lot of people are talking and you have to double check to see the name attached to the rest of the message. I would love for this Roleplaying game to have character stalking, not a Text Log.
I totally agree. like in wow ppl talk with speech bubbles above there head and it totally works in that game, why can't it work here
