Good lord Rokien, you strike again lol. First of all:

    1) FFXIV =/= 2.0. I wish I could stop repeating this but alas, there are still those who (derp) dont get it. How can we answer this question when we haven't even seen the full game. At most we've played with a few of the mechanics and a few of the dungeons that will be in 2.0. You are analyzing a scrap product, that *will* be scrapped shortly. At most this is a 2.0 preview, like a demo.

    2) To answer your question anyway (why i have no idea), longevity is a function of how much ppl want to continue playing the game. WoW is still active to this day and all it does is add raid, add gear for raid, repeat. You dont really have to do anything except create a world that ppl love. After that, give them new content every now and then and they'll be happy.

FFXIV 2.0 will do what every game does, add new content periodically.

Well, if FFXI could last ten years on a stand in one spot and mash buttons to grind for about 200 days of your life so you can do the cool stuff, then FFXIV will be fine. I loved FFXI, it's my favorite of the FF titles, and i withstood the grind for all the great things that it had more than that ... so things like achievements or general content. A level sync with good reasons for players to revisit, and some uber hardcore items like relic weapons etc. Add enough content to LS houses and building as well. PVP has a kind of longevity to it that PVE never achieves as well. Should be fine.

Soo guess they didn't get my message on longevity.

Why can we just fight garuda without doing a long quest line first? Come on square you are disappointing me.

Would you wanna spend the first week doing quests to fight garuda or do the first week and the next few months fighting garuda?

Hmm, I'd rather get to 50 first before I answer that question...!

I dunno. I've been playing the game at my own pace to keep myself from getting jaded by the current lame mechanics (mostly inventory management). So I reallllly don't see the problem with longevity.

My point with my earlier response is, currently, your argument is for naught, because currently, the game is just the appetizer before the main course.

It's the kiddy rides before the roller coaster.

It's the Yellow Chocobo before the Golden Chocobo.

It's the first/second/third date before the marriage. Honeymoon's a whole other story.

So really, asking for longevity right now is pointless.

Because making a fight's prerequisites shorter, and easier to spam, surely makes it last longer. For god sakes man! Think lol.

I think there's only so much they can do before the complete engine overhaul

So let me get this straight: basically what the guy described in the video is 7 years worth of grinding to get a character maxed out.

    Sounds awesome.................................................
