    The State of Coils

Basically, I feel the content is painfully irrrelevant. Some of the best story that would fill in some glaring plot holes for new players is sitting gathering dust at the back of the game's memory. How do you guys feel about this and what would you change about it if you could? I personally would like to see them readjusted to fit into a roulette, or made into challenging solo instances, someway that cutscenes could be viewed in their entirety but allows it to be accessible for new players.

Fortunately for the Coils, the only things they deal with lore wise are the wrap up for the loose ends of 1.0 as well as fleshing out Alisaie's respect for the WoL more. I think they can be left alone, in favor of the dev team working on what's new. They'll always be there, and while newbies may feel that they're missing out, it's simple enough to put a PF and have a couple level 80s bulldoze them for you.

Do you have any examples of these "glaring plotholes for new players" OP? The Coil story is mainly about wrapping up an End of an Era (the end of 1.0), and isn't really mentioned often in the MSQ.

Personally, I wouldn't change anything about it. Want to see the story? Do it unsynced. Want the added challenge? Do it synced. And for an extra challenge, you can even do them as a group of blue mages.

As somebody who wasn't around for that part of the story, I felt kind of put off by the very foreboding Bahamut roar at the end of 2.0 being followed up by what I later learned was optional content. Furthermore it is never touched on again, except in side conversations that would only acknowledge it if you had gone through at least part of Coils. As someone new looking in, you'd expect Bahamut to play a far more relevant role considering the opening cinematic cites him as something who nearly destroyed the world, yet he's practically forgotten about. Though I believe I misspoke a bit when I was talking about plot holes. It's more that it would give players some insight on how FFXIV used to be, and on the story that led up to Coils and ARR. It would also give some measure of connection to the amazing Answers cinematic, not to mention some incredible art design that rivals the current game. It's just such a shame I feel that you have to get to max or at least beyond 50 to have a good chance of doing it unsynced, and the mechanics in many fights are such that if you aren't at max or have several other players you simply cannot clear it. It's a story that was clearly meant to take place in the ARR storyline, and for me personally it feels off putting to have to progress beyond that point to complete it.

EDIT: correcting some points I made

The roar at the end of 2.0 is mainly just to inform players about the 8-man raid. They did the same with 3.0 and Alexander, 4.0 and Omega.

If I remember correctly, the first time dialogue gets changed when a player has gone through the Coil story, is when Alisaie gets reintroduced somewhere in the 3.x MSQ. With Yoshi-P mentioning about the change in dialogue, although I can't remember if there's an ingame warning for it as well.

(Also it should be easy to get some 80s to run a fresh 50 through the Coil story, considering each first time clear will give them 100 poetics)

Actually the first time is if you have completed the ARR dragoon job quests and meet Estinien again in 2.55? when he acknowledges you as a fellow Azure dragoon, and subsequent nods as such by him and others throughout HW until 3.3

In regards to the OP, I can understand where they are coming from. The Raids are set in post-ARR, and a new player should be able to complete the story of such during that 2.1-2.55 storyline w/o having to rely on PF unsync carries. Unfortunately, the devs are disinclined go back to old content if there is a viable way to get it done (unsync in this case) and would always rather work on things that are new and exciting. Part of me hopes that one day they get a bunch of devs into a 'old content upkeep' team filled with say the newer members to as a way test their coding skills at first, and then as a way to cycle members so that they aren't over worked on new stuff

While the interactions between Estinien and a player who has completed the DRG are definitely cool (I would know, I mained a DRG during ARR/HW), it's also completely unrelated to the Coil story, which this thread (and my reply) is about.

Ah, I misread your comment. My apologies.

As far as the average person knows, Bahamut was defeated. You dont discover how Louisoix "beat" Bahamut until Final Coil. The story doesnt really change if you dont consider 1.x.
