Why is duty finder wrong?

As I'm leveling, I've noticed consistently that the duty finder lists Tank as what's needed, when in reality it's healers. The biggest example right now was that queue time for tank was 6 minutes, but they were listed as 'in need'. Queueing as healer, the instance popped immediately. This indicates healers are what's actually needed, not tank.

Just because it pop right away when you sign up as healer does not mean that the tank role was not needed more at that moment.

It doesn't update in real time (I forget how frequently it updates) so when it starts showing tank, a load of people who are happy to run as either tank or healer will queue as tank so the queues will tip towards needing healers until updates.

Simply put, it's wrong because a bunch of tanks saw it and queued.

Sometimes I get dps.

The reason tank is required all the time is because the level of the duty, remember all duty’s are picked at random or based on what is needed by the community, for example ever run a dungeon or raid 7 times in a week? That’s because every one and their mothers dog on the server is running that, so you get out into it.

That but I find myself with strike one towards a penalty after coming back from the bathroom.

Roles update every 15 minutes and are merely a suggestion, actual queues vary depending on who queues into what in realtime. You do get nice bonuses if you hit it. That said you also gotta consider that when a role changes a lot of people suddenly queue up for that which inflates the queue for that role.
You keep the bonuses when you signed up even if the role changes.

I started a thread awhile back asking about this and here’s a helpful reply I received. “Adventure in need is updated periodically not whenever you open the duty finder menu. Its given to whatever the roulette needs more of to balance queue times over the next period of it updates. This including every instance in its roulette, even people only queueing for a single instance. Take like puppets bunker might need 1 tank 1 healer and up to 7 dps it'll say tank because it has a higher weight because the instance needs less. But you queue as a healer and get say world of darkness instantly, it wasnt trying to balance out that as much but duty finder tries to lessen queues if a instance would be full rather then the longer waiting queues. Whenever you queue you get locked in for that bonus, even if it changes before duty finder finder a instance for you.”

The game knows when you go afk. That's when it will always pop. If you sit and wait, it'll last that full 10 minutes.

... do people actually go for the "in-need" bonus? For reasons other than "well, maybe it'll pop faster"? Huh.
