I'm not sure what DPS meters have to do with this.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
I know, known troll and all, but technically Stormblood "wasn't right" in that a lot of people hated it yet people still like the game and respect yoshiP sooo...
There are things I dislike personally about this approach, but I can't be mad at Yoshida because he's such a nice guy, an overworker as the director of two games and producer of one, and has exceeded his performance goals of not only saving this MMO but hugely growing its playerbase.
As a long time player I just wish we didn't have the same core systems, same content pattern, same rewards pattern every expansion. We're going into the second decade of always being able to predict the type of content that will be released and in what order and what kind of items we earn by clearing it.
Meanwhile the other big JP MMO - PSO2 - which finally got global localisation last year, is going through a complete renewal in the coming months which includes updates to the graphics engine and core systems, the addition of BotW-style open world with gliding traversal, seamless zoning without loading screens even when moving between the central city and the open field, etc.
Even within FF XIV's neatly ordered content types, I can see a lack of innovation in the battle planning. Vishap at the Steps of Faith is the only trial in the game's history that I see as greatly diverging from the usual formula. It was not popular but that shouldn't mean give up trying to design fights that diverge from the typical flat and circular locked room type.
It's always seemed to me like they think they know what's best for the game, they have some kind of "vision" for it and bully on whatever the players think should happen. There are SOME things they've done that players have asked for, but more often than not they just do what they want and we either accept it or we don't.
Fans will turn on him when he fails us. And he hasn't. This isn't wow. he listen, they listen. Blizzard - does not listen, square - for the most part - does.
Cannot please everyone unfortunately, WoW after like burning crusade and well pitch king to a certain extent became silly....like the devs were all replaced by mindless zombies or something
FFXIV has a great team but that doesn’t make them exempt from criticism, they have a ton of things to work on but that doesn’t take away from an otherwise great game and in some cases they listen to the player base too much which led to a lot of simplified job changes, accessible is fine but they kind of turned jobs into identical pairs of their counterparts in the role.
The biggest issue in my opinion is the community, the raider vs casual mindsets and arguments that always erupt doesn’t help with stuff everyone wants to see come from the game. Honestly it may be SE who turns on fans lol toxic twitch streamers, toxic casuals, and toxic raiders all alike.
Hearing, listening, and acting are all different adjectives that mean different things. As is what Yoshi hears, listens to, and acts upon. To say Yoshi is oblivious to NA/EU feedback is about as erroneous as saying Japanese culture hasn't influenced anything in English speaking nations.
That said, the man is not infallible, but he also isn't a genie.
I'm still waiting for FFXI mobile SE, you said it was supposed to be released in 2016 and nothing...now what will we FFXI players look forward to in FFXI 20th anniversary? Nexon is cancelled so what SE?
