I think it would perhaps be better for unlock requirements for Sage in this case to be more... relevant. Like, as of now we know Sage will require one DoW/DoM job at 70. It would make more sense and probably be more helpful for that requirement to be a level 70 Healer.. ideally WHM or AST, as that at the very least ensures that whoever picks up Sage has experience with the Healer role. Obviously this is also why I didn't name SCH as an example.. because you can (and I did) unlock SCH at high level by playing SMN without ever having touched a healing class.

I suppose it still doesn't address 'skip potions'.. but I don't think there really is a way of addressing that. People can and will buy them.. and they can and will do stupid things like queue for Holminster with a job.. with a role they have never played.

    Mandatory? Nah, probably not.

The Role Quests are sort of trying to be this, at least for max level content. Since they are solo, (eventually) required, and have ridiculously telegraphed mechanics.

If SE upped the difficulty slightly, made their status as a tutorial a bit easier, and removed the ability to do them on 'Easy' or 'Very Easy' (or perhaps let you finish the MSQ and *only* the MSQ until you cleared them on 'Normal') that'd accomplish the same thing, without forcing the people who don't need them to jump through extra hoops.

Yes, and then sell a "service" to skip it.

Do you remember what you learned in primary school? Sure I suppose some of that knowledge is retained but I'm pretty sure you've picked up some bad habits since then. You can't educate common sense to some people you're just wasting people's time with this nonsense. Making it mandatory, well I mean I'm pretty sure some people would get annoyed and just play badly afterwards out of spite cause you don't pay my sub etc etc. You're free to make friends who can mash buttons correctly. You're free to kick people from parties if they join a clear party and they should be in a learning party.

when you boost in wow it puts you into learn this class no choice but to do it so you can proceed. in ff14 it gives you the option to go there, but not necessary. i think it should take you directly there so you can learn the basics.

The game requires an introduction to the High content in an appropriate way, it is not possible that there are people at level 80 who do not know the basics of their class because history does not teach you absolutely ANYTHING. I have talked about it with many people and the jump in difficulty between casual and savage content is too big and the game never teaches you an appropriate introduction to it, it is something similar to The Feast where there is also no proper introduction to their systems , the game is missing a lot of tutorials to game modes.

And instead of increasing the difficulty of the story Yoshida gives the option to make it even easier, then you are not surprised to see bards at level 80 who never use a song or White Mage with Cure 1 spam on expert roulettes.

To those saying it will cause people to quit I have to ask... so what? If someone can't be bothered to learn the game do we really want them to stick around and be boat anchors in all group content they do?

And it DEFINITELY should not be used as a roadblock between 60-80. Thats a fast way to lose players.
Then don’t make it a roadblock.

Positive/rewarding feedback is always better than punitive/negative feedback.

They can make it so for those who complete it, will get a permanent stats boost reward of +1%. Or something to that nature. A cute minion. A nice unique mount. A title or achievement.

That should work better than roadblock.

This is what MSQ solo duties are for.
You know, the ridiculously easy duties that roadblock the MSQ at various stages, yet are always complained about for being "impossible."

The other day I saw a RDM hard casting verthunder a few times and using aoe spells on bosses at lvl 72, I never expect ppl do perfect rotations but I do expect them to have basic knowledge of the job mechanics they are playing, and it wasn't only him, every day I play on dutys I see some stuff like this, healers using cure 1 and barely doing anything else, NIN that don't know what mudras are, and the list keep going.

I firmly believe they should expand the hall of novice and create a tutorial for every job in separate duty's, for example a duty on lvl 50, another one on lvl 70 and a final on at lvl 90 to teach how to use all the job mechanics and a training ground where you can practice your role with instances duty's that have assigned different objectives with different difficult levels for each role.

Idk about making it mandatory but the level of, and sorry not trying to offend anyone, mediocrity on the player base respecting to battle content is getting higher every day, one thing is tolerate a person playing a bit poorly bcs he have a bad day or what any reason they have but see him at least he have knowledge of his/her job is one thing, what I say above at those levels it's shouldn't be normal at all.
