    Blue Mage abilities and signs of 6.0 ability mechanics in the Endwalker Trailer

    2 of the new Blue Mage spells (Cold Fog and Chelonian Gate) and one of the effects in the recent Endwalker trailer got me thinking about what the tanks might be getting in the expansion.

    For those who do not known Cold Fog and Chelonian Gate are spells that give you buffs that when you are either hit or take 30% your max hp in damage transform that spell's button into a powerful counter attack. I suspect these 2 spells are actually tests for upcoming tank abilities in 6.0.

    In the trailer the WoL (as a paladin) jumps in front of an injured Alisaie and then proceeds to hit the attacking enemy with a shield bash that makes his shield glow.

    Combine these with the rather well received TBN+Dark Arts system of Dark Knight (even if other parts of the job are not as popular) and I suspect that the Blue Mage spells are actually tests for similar abilities we will see on the tanks. We may be getting counter attacks that are linked to various defensive cooldowns and our protection abilities.

    While this would be nice, if they took Shield Swipe away from Paladin (which was effectively this), I can't see it happening.

    Shield Swipe and the Low Blow/Reprisal procs were more or less removed due to forcing the DRK and PLD into the MT role as they required Parry and Block procs to trigger. Linking the counters to proper use of the protection buffs (Cover/Intervention, TBN, HoS and Nascent Glint) plays more into tank fantasy while allowing them to be used while OTing.

    They're doing that anyways with healers, dividing them into puuuure healers and shield healers as sub-roles. They should just do the same with tanks.

    Though the specifications between Healers will undergo changes to have Pure or Barrier based healers, there will be no plans to split the categorisation for MT or OT.

    Looks like it wont be the case for now, im fearing tank Gameplay Will remain the same brainless thing for Endwalker.

    I hope not, even if they don't do the same partition on the tank role i hope they make it more engaging and focus more on bring a unique experience with each job like yoship say they will do on healers and not leave behind tanks the entire expansion on the corner.

    they already tried to do that when they announced gunbreaker (talking about there being two Main- and two Off-tanks in terms of design), and accomplished absolutely nothing with it (because they go out of their way to make sure that no class is 'filtered' by content, so all content can be feasibly cleared with two 'off-tanks' or two shield healers despite none of their abilities ever stacking, etc).

    the healer changes will likely accomplish nothing other than further diluting the healer playerbase and lobotomizing AST yet again; lost it's cards+class lore, lost any reference to time magic whatsoever aside from their mandatory-healer-kit-MP-recovery skill, and now losing nocturnal sect entirely--which raises several questions as to how many of their abilities will work, such as their newer skills like neutral sect and celestial intersection.
