But someone like Mr Happy has genuine sway in the community. When he says ‘we’re most likely getting....’ without anything behind it but it just being something he thinks might happen, you get half the forums believing it.

Like who was the idiot who told everyone the expansion was definetly called forespoken and wouldn’t stop calling it even when it was denied by the developers? Where is that person now and why do they still get to make money doing this for a living?

Why exactly do you care so much? They were wrong, life goes on, their career or whatever you want to call it goes on and if they lose viewership or something over it then that's what'll happen. You seem to want these content creators to be regarded as something to be ignored or not listened to, which is already the case for those that do not watch them. If you don't like them continuing to make money (not that hear youtube pays out that much unless you're HUGE) then make your own channel and rally support against these people who have so terribly wronged the community by leading them astray. Or get over it, that works too.

Ma’am or Sir.... they are YouTube videos guessing video game content. You don’t even have to watch them. Some people enjoy seeing other people’s guesses outside the toxicity of the forum atmosphere.

I remember Happy saying we would most likely see male Viera unveiled at one of the Fanfests prior to ShB launch. While this is anything but a guarantee, it won't stop certain peeps from seeing it that way. These are the same types that thought ShB would bring a 4th healer, and DNC was going to be it based off of pure speculation. I don't fault Happy for that, but I think his choice of words were also very poor. He admitted he was wrong in a video afterwards. Expressing an acknowledgement of an influence over the playerbase would be quite pompous, even for Happy, so I don't have that expectation of him.

Like all content creators, there are things about Happy that rub me the wrong way and ruffle my feathers. Perhaps it's their mugs. I have found that I enjoy gameplay and gaming videos much more when they keep their faces out of them. Even the ones that will talk about a certain topic, but do it while showing random gameplay from boss or dungeon encounters are far more watchable.

You don’t see my point. I could care less what the expansion was called. But it’s pretty obvious to anyone with a brain that a big company that makes games trademarking a title is not confirmation that they’re calling their next ff title that name.

Yet this guy wouldn’t let it go, made about ten videos and convinces half of you that this was definitely the title.

The least he could do is show some humility and do better in the future, but nope he goes on like nothing happened and he didn’t make a major mistake at his job.

Because he didn't. Part of his job is speculation and driving hype; he's there to make you excited. Keeping you excited keeps you playing. That means you're far more likely to watch his videos for news/speculation. Rinse and repeat. That's the cynical/business side of things.

The other half? The guy's just really passionate about his job and loves the game, so he's gonna make speculations based off his own experience with said title. He's not always wrong and he's not always right--that's the nature of speculation. But getting a guess wrong isn't something for him to lose sleep over in the same vein of how me being completely wrong about us getting a caster instead of a melee DPS (though it was a 50/50 chance for either) isn't gonna keep me up at night. I just roll with what's now concrete information and keep on speculating. And that's what he and anybody else who's interested in what's coming is gonna do.

Really, maybe you're just reading far too into his confidence. Guy's got an okay track record for predictions. I don't think he's wrong to feel like he's got a good peg on things.

Even if he spoke with a sense of certainty, it's still a speculation video. He doesn't have to apologize for "being wrong" unless he was being fairly malicious or toxic about anybody who disagreed with him. This is the nature of speculation: everything is a possible fact until disproven.

To be honest it is kind of weird to see you seems really bothered by this. I mean, like, really bothered. I just don't understand why.

Do you expect some random guy you don't even know to apologize to you personally if you perceive that they have done something wrong before it stops bothering you?

Also a lot of these content creators (of course not all, I don't want to give the impression that I'm painting them all with the same brush), they make their money with clicks and watches. What gets clicks? Click-baity titles like "NEW FFXIV 6.0 TITLE LEAKED???" and stuff like that where they just theorize. They're not going to admit they're wrong anymore than your local weatherman.
