i like that theory, maybe bahamut will break out of it and join nidhogg ^~^
-May contain spoilers if you haven't played through/beaten FF5 or 10-
The hint could be in relations to 10 and 5, when I saw the weapons on top of the moon it made me think of FF5 where you have to go on trials to obtain the legendary weapons in the game, so I said it on another forum but it feels like Dalamud will be involved in obtaining them.
Then we have the feeling of a cemetery.. in FF10 there was a place in the world in which people could talk to the lost souls and where you found out a secret about Auron and Seymour(later on) so perhaps Dalamud is a Valhalla where the souls of dead warriors are laid to rest so our job souls will resonate with the moon and most likely cause a reaction which will give us a quest to obtain our AF weapons.
For FF5 I see AF weapons representing http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Sealed_Weapons
And for FF10 I see http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Farplane which would explain why it looks like a cemetery lol.
-edit-
The other comparison I see with FF5 is dalamud could indeed merge with eorzea to create a new world in the same manner that the 2 worlds in ff5 combined into one planet. In that sense the picture could represent how the red moon's color is filling the sky because it's going to cover the land of Eorzea in it's esesnce, rather then the moon creating a crater it'll sprinkle it's essence over Eorzea and cause it to metamorph.

Well since Odin is coming at the start of 2.0 I'm betting a guess that if it is a prison that Odin is sealed away on Dalamud or he is the one sealed inside the Crystal tower. But my guess as good as anyone's

Kinda looks like a Spiked Wrecking Ball or a WWII Naval Mine.
I am not convinced (yet) that it is a man-made object. It may still be a concentrated mass of Red Crystal Energy but the "Meteor" Spell that was cast upon it (by the crazed Judge) is creating the "Pin-Head" look of it.

Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.

Right, because it is so uncommon to launch weird stuff into the sky just for fun, just to say "We did it!"..![]()
Yeah, it reminded me of Bhunivelze too. But I think it's just because it looks cool to add spikes on everything.

Did someone say Dalamud may be an egg?
...just have to replace "brilliantly colored eggs" by "a bloody red egg"she (Jihli Aliapoh) was supposedly visited by twelve magnificent Archons who descended from the heavens on brilliantly colored eggs
Well, and actually, that's my random theory : Dalamud is some kind of machine to transform humans into surhumans (by overexposing the body to aether), built and used by the rulers of Allag. What we call the twelves gods would actually be the rulers of Allag who want to attain godhood, which gives sense to "the archons will descend from the heaven from an egg", after a "gestation" of 5000 years.
("Archon" is the name given to the supposed terrestrial incarnations of the twelve gods. It's a greek word which means "ruler")
What I like with this hypothesis is, the cataclysm will then really be a cataclysm : the very foundation of Eorzea - the belief in the 12 gods - will be shaken. Some will keep following these gods, other will reject them. And it would fit in the present lore because that's exactly the problem with the primals : they pretend to be god, but nobody can confirm it.
(maybe the primals are also "living beings surexposed to aether to transcend mortality", which may explain their heavy consumption of crystal to be summoned)

Atoli > exactly! xD
