Unexpected error nvwgf2umx.dll kernel32.dll and ntdll.dll

Hi,

I've recently bought a new computer, and after a few days the game has started crashing in random moments, never in the same place. Usually it's a kernell32 error, but it can happen a directx11 error, a sound error, or sometimes even WITHOUT any error at all. Just a few minutes ago, the amazing thing: I had the game running but in background, as I was alt-tabbing on Youtube, and it crashed. Without me doing absolutely anything. I got the following error:

I have already downloaded the latest drivers for my graphic card, with a clean install. Windows is also up to date as well. Yesterday I have disabled Fullscreen Optimizations on ffxiv_dx11.exe, as I saw it was suggested in another thread for a similar problem. I'm really tired of all these crashes to be honest, how can I fix this once and for all? Here the System Information:

Could you try doing a cleanboot by opening the task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. ?

I actually decided to format the entire computer and reinstall Windows from scratch. I was careful not to install anything that wasn't essential for my work, and still it managed to crash with the following error:

So I performed a clean boot following instructions on Microsoft's website, that is I opened the System Configuration, hidden all Microsoft services from the list of services, and disabled all the remaining ones. Then I also went on the Start up tab in the task managed and disabled manually everything there. Rebooted, launched FF, it still crashed once with the following error:

So it looks like this wasn't enough... The only non-Microsoft service that wasn't disabled is Norton Antivirus. Now I'll try to have that disabled as well while I play and see what happens. Still, I don't think I should be asked to disable my antivirus to be able to play without crashes, no? Is there anything else I can do?

I would only disable the anti viruses for testing purposes. Please do not leave it completely disabled. Could you try updating the graphics drivers and disabling any overlays? Additionally, does the game crash if is run in windowed mode or borderless full screen?

I updated the graphics driver once again, with a clean install. I slightly lowered the graphics settings from Maximum, by activating LOD and using Low Detail Shadow Models. Moreover, the NVIDIA Multi-Frame Sampled Anti-aliasing option is off. The game seems to be more stable, but now I just got the following error, while in the middle of a cutscene (specifically, of a Valentione quest in Gridania's airship landing):

"A fatal DirectX error has occurred.(11000002)"

All this while NOT in a clean boot and in full screen mode. I had already disabled all overlays, both from Windows, Discord, and NVDIA GeForce Experience. I'll now try to switch to borderless full screen, where has already crashed in the past. I attach the System Configuration, since it has changed since last time after the formatting of the whole PC.

The game kept crashing also in borderless windowed mode and windowed mode. In fact, tonight it crashed several times, once with a "xaudio2_9.DLL" error, twice with a simple "ffxiv_dx11.exe" error, and once with a "ffxiv_dx11.exe, KERNEL32.DLL, ntdll.dll" error. On top of this, once the whole computer froze and rebooted itself, with no error at all. I really don't know what to do.

Good Day Red, i am commenting to push up these thread because this is a issue impacting multiple players and doesn't seem to be on the players side. I keep seeing posts like this get brushed under the rug because of inactivity on them. Getting marked as "resolved" When no solution has been given. Most likely due to the player just giving up. I me and my gf both have this same issue. We have tried everything you can think of multiple times. We have even tried on 4 different computers... Same issue. I hope this is addressed quickly.

After investigations with the dump files, the two Windows crashes were caused by Norton antivirus. So I uninstalled it and I'm now using simply the Windows Defender (the antivirus Windows comes with). Then I uninstalled, in safe mode, the GPU drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller by Guru3d, and finally reinstalled them by downloading them directly from NVIDIA (the drivers alone, I didn't download GeForce Experience). I haven't tested the game in highly demanding parts, like while in Bozja. If in the next few days it crashes again, I'll simply clean install Windows yet again and, after running Windows Update until it doesn't find anything else to update, I'll download the latest driver from NVIDIA, the game and nothing else, and play with this minimal setup. If it will still crash after this, then it's probably hardware. If not, it's probably software, and hopefully it really is just Norton that screws up with the game somehow. We'll see in the next few days what happens.

Update on this? I also uninstalled Norton, GeForce exp and unstalled drivers and installed directly from site. This didnt seem to help my issues. I am currently doing a complete clean install of windows, updating all drivers and planning to try to run the game with the bare min on my laptop. The game is installing now.

Since I had yet another Windows crash while playing, I went on and performed a clean install of Windows. After running Windows Update until I had nothing else to update, I went on the NVIDIA website and downloaded the latest drivers manually. I installed them, downloaded the game with no other software whatsoever installed that didn't come with the operative system. I'm going to test this setup for a week and see if the game still crushes: through the weekend it didn't. There's a possibility that Norton antivirus could've been the cause of all these crashes, I'll keep this thread updated for future reference. (Please mods, don't close this as the problem is not yet solved. I still have to test if the game crashes with other common software, like Discord, Skype or even Opera browser, but I need some time to check this by installing them one at a time and testing for days for each.)
