That the 485~500 steps. WE're talking about the 500~515 ilvl steps.. they are WAY worse then the 485 ilvl quests :-(You can get those memories outside of Bozja. And the Bitter Memories of Dying you can get from Dungeons (level 60, with the Anti-Tower being the fastest).

HAHAHA. Untill you said it I did not even think that could be a thing!!!Very thankful the relic is not good for my chosen job.
I didn't mind eureka, and I love BA. Something about grinding fates and CT again just sucks the will to participate out of me.
Why not ShB fates? Why not let us grind this new currency they added in the same expansion? Would be more helpful to assist the 71-80 crowd do fates than the 59-60/60-70 crowd (do people even level with fates at that level? Are we just window dressing in those zones for new players?)
But yeah its gawdaweful... I hope they change it to be more like the 485 quests where you could get everything you needed from the Bozjan front... WITH a better drop rate!

You must be thinking post-nerf. Pre-nerf Nexus light farming was infinitely worse than this lol.
in the nexus light farm, you needed 2000 light total, and the highest amount of light you could ever achieve in a single run was 16, newborn star from a CT raid on bonus. ( https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...t_information/ )
Which meant the absolute minimum runs you would need pre-nerf was 125 on bonus CT raid clears. 36 raid clears is chump change in comparison. Also even if you did every a9s on bonus, it was still 32 runs (2000 light / 64 light per Stalwart clear = 31.25) which is extremely close to the current grind anyway, also keeping in mind A9s was still on level content meaning you couldn't ultra zerg it like you can today, on top of the fact all light values have been doubled since then due to nerfs.
This grind is a pittance compared to grinds of old, considering how ridiculously fast you can do ST with a huge BLU pre-made. That being said, i do agree they should buff the CE drop rates to incentivize bozja. It's not like CE's rapid fire like crazy and you can be waiting a bit for the next one to show up sometimes. FATEs in stormblood areas -do- need to stay with super low drop rates though; if they were even remotely close to 50%, Mhachi & Ivalice would be pointless since you can do crazy more fates in the same time it takes to even complete a single Void Ark/Rabanastre, and its clear the super low drop rate on fates is meant to incentivize doing the old 24 mans.

I've done both ARR and HW Relic Pre and Post-Nerf. 6 months for the 12 ATMA items... I didn't mind too much, because I was AT LEAST making progress at my own time.
This, however, is locked behind a content with a RARE Fate and needs a boat load of people to do it and sometimes you don't even get enough and have to leave the instance and try again. Wasting so much time and effort to get past the "required" step and you have to do two Story Raids here.
Sorry, I rather take Pre-Nerf ARR and HW over ShB's current Relic steps. This is godawful game design and not fun. At least the post Relic are tied to the more casual and active dungeons and raids accessed to everyone without behind gated from a closed-off open space zone.
Ohhhhhhhhhh. Bleh. Yeah. Haven't even started those. Thanks for the clarification!
Not to go telling tales out of school, but I gather the distinct feeling there was a divide in the dev team about what to do with the relic system. I think they hired on Matsuno to continue his story from Return to Ivalice, but while one part of the team made up Bozja Southern Front and its content another part or someone higher up decided to put relic steps in old world content to boost the population for the new influx of players Shadowbringers brought in. If Bozja and the previous expansion content doled out the same amount of rewards for the same amount of effort I would think it was just to give people more options, but the fact that most players feel funneled into the old content to reliably earn materials needed to upgrade the relics makes believe it was a deliberate decision to boost the population of old content.
And I wouldn't be upset if they just wanted to do that, like having a story about building a relic based on your own memories of the experiences you've been through in the previous expansions as a way to get that content populated. However, this comes the expense of hobbling Matsuno's story and the work the developers put into the Bozja Southern Front, to the point many people were shocked to find out you have to continue the Save the Queen storyline and raids at all to continue working on a relic they've only known as something you go back to Heavensward content to complete.
Even post nerf, those books for the ARR relic are brutal. Nothing has been done to nerf those, but at least you can fly in ARR zones now, and can steamroll everything solo now so long as you don't need the weapon equipped; and since you do for most things involved with the steps, it is actually still a hell of a grind.
Also, light farming is the offspring of Major Drag.
Actually, used to be kill 10 enemies of each type, now its just 3.Even post nerf, those books for the ARR relic are brutal.
