    SMN but like BRD (6.0 SMN Rework discussion)

    Crazy random thought,

    Imagine SMN having summons akin to BRD songs...

    Each summon can have their own rotations akin to how Phoenix works now, but maybe with different play styles. That way we solve most of the issues with pets straight off the bat. But as for summons maybe one can be a burst Summon with fast casting spells. Focusing on how you used aetherflow within the other summons. The second, maybe a slower casting summon making summoner play like BLM. Lastly, maybe a DoT type of Summon with lower damage but gives you mobility and weaker insta cast spells compared to the first summon I mentioned.

    SMN was my first Max out job when I first started playing ff14 around 2.2 or 2.3. I have a soft spot for the job. So I want it to be fun to play like it used to be. With 6.0 a lot of people are hoping they will rework SMN (and hopefully SCH too but I digress).

    I'd love to hear some other SMN rework suggestions and thoughts. They have so many avenues to take and I hope whichever path they choose is fun.
    What does everyone think they'll do? What do you want out of the SMN rework?

    There are things I like about current summoner but there’s also a horrible mess of old ideas that are just stuck to the job. To me the core of summoner is fine, they just need to trim some of the fat.

    Things I like:
    Egi assault 1 and 2
    Enkindle
    Aetherpact
    Summon Bahamut/Phoenix (kind of)

    Things I don’t like:
    Trance
    Energy drain/siphon
    Fester/painflare

    I think if they focused on the things that make summoner a summoner and remove the things that put the focus on the caster it would feel better to play. I don’t mind giving the caster some filler moves just to give them something to do like casting ruin, but things like trance just go too far.

    To me an ideal summoner would be carbuncle as a persistent summon like the current iteration (I hate egi but that’s just my opinion). Using their pet abilities like egi assault, enkindle and aetherpact to fill a summon gauge kind of like SCH’s fairy gauge. Once the gauge is full you can summon a demi-primal like Bahamut, Phoenix or Odin and can then use their attacks at the cost of the gauge, once the gauge is empty they’ll use their special attack and leave.

    I honestly can't wrap my head around how to play SMN so maybe I don't get a say, but I kinda feel like SMN and BLM roles should be swapped. Not that I think they should do this but in old FFs SMN was just a better AoE BLM. BLM's spells were reduced damage if you AoEed them while SMN's spells did full damage to all mobs but at a higher mp cost. So I feel like SMN should be the turret mage where their spells are just attacks that the primals do. All AoE with no fall off damage, and no pets. And BLM should be... well I don't know what BLM would do then lol.

    As someone that plays both BRD and SMN... I don't want SMN to have a song-like rotation. It really sucks when being level synced, and can get a bit weird with some boss jumps.

    I am sorry but I totally hate this image of SMN and hope we never see it.

    Common pets are set and forget it. The mage casts all the spells. Egi's just auto attack and don't have big movement on dps of the summoner.

    Why would you ever want this? You are literally taking away the best part of SMN right now. Egi Assaults do more damage than just Ruin/Outburst Spam and they allow you to move and weave your OGCDs instead of being a turret like BLM.

    Summoner main here. I don’t like the dots or the clunky pets. I would love to have certain summons fight on their own like they do in FF7R. Then after they are done they do their special attack then leave. Summoner needs to be become an actual summoner. Not a knock off of a WoW warlock or spiritmaster from Aion.

    There should be summons we can keep out forever and some where they have a timer like Bahamut and Phoenix. I like the idea about the gauge buildup that’s a pretty good idea. I don’t like the idea of controlling them. I think they should fight on their own while we are in the background helping out with our ruin spells. This will take so much pressure off summoner.

    The job needs a complete rework. It’s a complete mess right now. Nothing really flows together. It’s just all over the place.

    No, thank you. Bard is extremely boring if they make smn like that it will get even more boring. So thanks but no thanks.
