Remove Gender-Lock From Gear / Glamour Please

Well, considering that certain playable races have unique traits such as horns and tails...there's a lot of potential for some interesting race locked gear that takes advantage of that. It sure would be nice to have some glamour that allows my character's tail to breathe and not just clip awkwardly through the metal/fabric. It's also not at all unusual for other fantasy games - both single and multi-player - to take advantage of the differences between playable races and embrace glamour options that are locked to the player's chosen race.

You know, other games with tailed, horned, and/or hoofed characters give little details on armor for those races. The tail armor from GW2 and hoof/paw armor from WoW come to mind.

Glamour is already restricted enough, and I have no desire for another round of "heritage" armor.

I would love to see some cultural heritage armors here. But not the way WoW did it. All sets need to come in the same patch.

Imo races lack identity here, they are all the same with different looks. Some of them are even barebones when it comes to lore . And heritage armor would help a bit

no its me saying race locked glams don't make a lot of sense. a raen from sharlaen isn't going to have much in common with one from the ruby sea, let alone a xeala from the steppe. why would they all dress the same when they live in drastically different environments? you might as well lock clothing to hair colour or height at that point.

There are physical differences in the races. Not so much the clans separating them, at least in most cases. The ones that do actually do (Hyur) have separate clan locked clothes.
That being said, clothes tailored to the physical form tend to look better than resized one-for-all clothes.

The only thing I can see happening with race/clan locked glamour is people being upset. The lore on the races of FFXIV aren't vast and deep, and most open to interpretation. I'd say the only races we have extensive backgrounds on are the Xaela of the Steppe and the Wildwood of Ishgard (which both have plenty of glamour in game to choose from). What I expect would happen in the fallout would be the hempen underwear debate on steroids on top of people being upset that this racial gear didn't reflect what they have imprinted on these races for years.

They should both have tailed gear, or gear with room for the tail, yes.
While only one aspect of their bodies, I am glad you're seeing what I mean.

Like most suggestions on paper it "sounds good" but in practice it's not.

You're either asking them to do twice the work in the same span of time so that we actually get content at the rate at which we do (Because there's no "lock" to this, there's no easy button to flip that makes gear fit someone's body. They would have to refit twice the amount of gear to do this) OR you're asking them to only design 1 version of gear that looks the same on both genders ... which would result in most all gear being male leaning in design as it would be the logical best design compromise. This would mean that females miss out on feminine versions of things or stuff like the Copied factory Caster top and other very female gendered gears. Option 1 is what people seem to want .... and that only benefits female characters and a small group of dudes.

So as I've said before on these topics, I'm cool with them having interns work on refitting some stuff behind the scenes like the wedding glams and w/e but as a design principle for actual reg content releases it's a big ol Nope in my book. I'm ok with gender locks as is. Gender locks actually gives them freedom to more deeply explore designs that suit each gender.

I hate how whiny this community is getting.

1) it’s one single pair of pants. There are tons of pairs of pants in the game that females can use, most of my glamours have them.

2) men wearing dresses is still taboo in Japan and China which is where most of this mog station stuff comes from.

3) there are far bigger battles in life to fight. You can’t always get your own way and being rude to anyone who has an opposing opinion to you isn’t helping your cause. I want to buy a house someone already lives in. I can’t. I buy another house, not make yet another forum thread whining about something small.
