100% to your whole post. We need to have more interaction with our combos, not reduce them to a one button spam.
I'd rather have a combo in one button and two more combos, or smt like the GNB move, then having to use 3 buttons and maybe even break a combo cause lag or whatever...
Making it an option would be fine.
There we go.
I'd love to free up 2 of my easier access keybinds for other things, so I'd definitely combine these simple combos into 1 button. Then the people who want to pretend that pressing 1-2-3 is super deep and engaging are free to continue wasting their keybind real estate doing it that way.

Conceptually I think it could work, as long as oGCDs or non rotation attacks don't force a reset of the 1-2-3 button. Nothing more annoying than having to voke or ranged attack a stray mob as a tank and losing your combo - happens all the damn time from DPS or healers who think they're being cute because they ran ahead of me. Guess what, now I can't do my Stalwart Soul after my Unleash because your impatient butt cause a mob to go 10 feet in the wrong direction and I had to Unmend it. Thanks....
Honestly I see y not when its basicly like that already .. the thing is like it or not pve is already brainless just with more keys involved.. the combo thing wouldn't change a thing just save some hotbar space for future unquie ability sets.
Either way it wouldn't change anything pve is already brainless outside mechincs and that has nothing to do with our abilitys.
If you think pve is not brainless already your naive as hell.
The combo is always the same you either follow it or you suck honestly.. this is true with everyjob.. outside healers who may have to throw in a heal outside their set pattern.
Ffxiv combo combat jobs is brainless as hell. Because they want it to be designed that way. Compared to xi it rlly is.. you follow
pattern or you suck period. You use mechincs to say its not but at the end of the day your combo an d ability pattern is always the same. Stop being naive loo

Every job's actions can fit on 3 bars.

On GNB I not only filled up my 2 crossbars (I think cycling between any more than that is a bit overwhelming with a controller), but also another I made myself which is only accessible by pressing 2 buttons at once on my controller to fill up another 4 slots to use. It's doable, but it took some getting used to. I think some people need to learn how to better configure their setup, but I can also see how it might seem like a lot to look at initially. I do think it helps that instead of just tossing in another skill to use, they are building on some of what is already there and upgrading those skills to save on having extra bar slots.

While I have generally been against combo consolidation, I could possibly come around to it if that meant more robust and interesting new abilities. Conversely, if it simply led to a job like Dragoon losing losing six buttons and they slap on a new oGCD you press every 60s. It will feel hollow and dumbed down. At least it will, imo. That isn't to say pressing 1-2-3- is any harder or more complex. It isn't. That doesn't mean spamming a single button the vast majority of your time playing combat related content doesn't feel boring. Ask the myriad of healers complaining about it.
It simply boils down to what do they actually use that new hotbar real estate for.
