What Spells Are The Most Fun For Blue Mages?

Hello everyone! I've decided to give blue mage a whirl because why not?

I'm at max level and just want to have fun with the job running in premade parties through dungeons. What spells are the most fun to have? Besides the spells you get by doing the class quests, are there any spells you'd consider must haves?

The primal spells are all worth looking into. Besides being strong, they're also off global, and really help to spice up the ole spell casting rotation while boosting offensive output.

Aetherial Mimicry is also a really solid must have. From there, if you set yourself to mimicking healer Pom Cure gets a huge boost to its cure power at a fraction of the cost of White Wind making it also a good bet to have set on your hotbar.

Honestly the main point of BLU is the collecting of spells so you’ll want to get all of them in the end. You’ll need all of them to gain access to the current final BLU spell which is a raise.

But if you’re looking for the main ones you’ll want.

Aetherial mimicry- allows you to change your “role”
    Mighty guard- tank stance
    Devour- increases your max hp
    The look- increased enmity
Diamondback- 90% mitigation but can’t move
Toad oil- evasion buff and buffs self-destruct
Sticky tongue- pull stray enemy and generates enmity
Bad breath- 10% damage down on enemy (along with other things but the damage down is the main draw)
    Flying sardine- instant cast interrupt
    Perpetual ray- irresistible stun
    White wind- powerful AoE heal
    Pom cure- single target heal
Exuviation- AoE heal around self + esuna
    Gobskin- AoE shield
    J-kick- oGCD gap closer
Off guard and peculiar light- damage buffs
    Bristle and whistle- damage boosts
Song of torment- powerful DoT always combo with bristle
    Reflux- irresistible heavy
Glower- filler damage spell also gives paralyze
Ram’s voice and Dragon’s voice- Decent AoE combo
    All primal spells- oGCD attacks
    Moon flute- damage buff
Self-destruct and final sting- self sacrifice for massive damage, always pair with toad oil, moon flute, bristle or whistle and peculiar light or off guard
    Angel whisper- raise.

There’s probably more but by the time you get all those you’ll probably be into it enough to want to get the rest yourself.

You asked for the most fun spells and the answers are:

Flying Sardine: Because you vomit a fish at a guy. It's also instant cast and silences. Hilarious every time.

"Moon Flute + Whistle (Off-Guard) + Final Sting - Required Level: None (Lv. 50 Recommended) - Acquire: Various

This is the single target version of the combo above. Final Sting starts out at 2000 Potency. Bristle increases the next attack by 50%. Whistle is stronger here at 80%, but is acquired from a Lv. 56 mob. Off-Guard adds 5% more damage, and Moon Flute increases all damage by 50%.

All added together, this hits for 5670 Potency which is stronger then a Melee LB2. But, unlike Limit Breaks, this can Crit and Direct Hit."

If 5670 potency that can crit and dh doesn't sound hilarious then I don't know what to tell you.

    Level 5 death: Self-explanatory

Flying Frenzy: Belly Flop some fool.

Jkick: Even better than belly flopping

Supahrnaka: Didn't check spelling, but pretty much the most powerful spell you can get access to, outside of final sting cheese.

Thanks everyone! It looks like I've got some spell collecting ahead.

    Holy cow!

Reminds me of the old cartoon where Daffy Duck blows himself up to impress a talent agent. "Great trick!" Yeah, too bad I can do it only once."

If it's just fun then you can pick your favorite spells. You can also weave some pretty different combos together if you can get them off (I like weaving together a combination I call a Song of Ice and Lightning). But max damage usually revolves around Moon Flute Openers or Final Sting/Self-Destruct Combos. Even those will be likely to change come Tuesday when the new patch drops and the Level Cap increases, during which time you will see roving hordes of Blue Mages driving the local wildlife into extinction. Joining them will make acquiring your spells so much easier before we settle into trying to complete the next Savage Tier.

Well, being brand new to the blue mage job, I'm not quite sure which ones will be my favorites. It's one thing to read a list and another to watch it in action.

Oh yeah, baby. The ability to weave different combinations together is one of the joys of this class.

I picked up three new spells while running Aurum Vale this evening. These being Glower, Sticky Tongue, and Bad Breath. Surprised the hell out of me because Aurum Vale is only mentioned as a location to obtain Glower. Anyhow, these spells have made nice additions to my combos.

Those lists largely assume youll get each spell the easiest way possible. Sticky Tongue is on the level 20ish toads in west thanalan(among others), and bad breath is on almost every morbol-type enemy(so near the southern aetheryte in south shroud is probly lowest level). Glower is from cyclopean enemies, so AV is basically the easy way there. Bad Breath is a fun one to reverse onto some enemies. It doesnt wreck them quite as hard as it does us, but its still a powerful effect.

I don't have it yet, but perpetually stunlocking a frustrating boss with Perpetual Ray sounds like an evil-laughfest of a time

It has a 3 second cast time but stuns for 1 second, and ignores stun buildup. I don't remember about specific immunity, though.

Ah. That makes sense. So, when I look at the list of mobs, I'll take into account the mob type too.

Can't wait to get more abilities to really see how a blue mage plays. So far, it's been a lot of fun.
