I mean if you don't log on for 45 days do you really need to keep your character?

I am being facetious, but it should be an obvious reply. Losing stuff sucks, full stop. Maybe some people like that, sandbox persistent games often offer that experience (EVE online for example), but I absolutely under no circumstance find the experience enjoyable. To me the system reads as an inability to meet modern technology and demands (modern being like pre-2010s, not brand new expectations of fancy 2020+ tech, even in similar systems like LotR they fixed many of the issues FFXIV suffers from). Some may call that a feature, obviously I don't lol.

Given that this is a themepark MMO, as said by the producer of the game itself, I will strongly argue that this system does not fit best and deserves all the salt it gets.

Which I'd also associate with other things the producer has said to suggest that this system was and is still a very poor choice for what I would argue are opposite to the desires of the game design, such as Yoshida being strongly against taking things away from players (as evident through multiple events in the history of this game, long ago even coming out with strong wording when people were trying to get Garuda runs rolled back or the gil exploit in 1.0) or similarly that he strongly believes a fine way to play the game is to pick it up and put it down rather than having to sit on top of the game or else fall behind into obscurity. The system is just counter to many points of what FFXIV is generally leaning to and also what the producer has suggested it should be. Naturally one might suggest sometimes you've to design things outside of the norm to keep a diverse range of people attracted (ultimate is hardly ran by the majority but I wouldn't say it's a waste to have), but I'd hardly call it a wise decision to make a core and pinnacle feature put behind an irregular game philosophy (rather using ultimate as an example apartments would be 'limited' and have some rather superfluous extra feature, like ultimate, but houses as a huge feature would be the 'content for all').

The housing system is not one single point of contention so it's not like I'm pointing out the pinnacle issue in that post you quoted (about it sucks when people lose a house), would just be one of many side issues. The placard soul draining experience is probably much higher, and honestly very depressing to read some of the stories. I find that there are a hilarious amount of things that suck about the system and very few, often not exclusive to this system, bonuses. With a note that I hardly ever say something sucks, I can tell you on one hand, perhaps two fingers, the things I just think flat out are "that was bad, all together bad, we have to stretch to list redeeming qualities" and largely think the game is very good, and very very good for your MMO choices. I'd of course list that I understand some choices (who knew FFXIV would do this well, etc), but that doesn't mean it no longer is an issue / concern simply because you found out how you go to the place you don't think is good (speaking on housing specifically, not the game as whole).

Giving credit to FFXIV at least the objects are cute and people have made some amazing things. Or while WoW does have everyone houses they aren't really 'houses' with the customization one may expect (which for some is fine and others means it's just not a house equivalent). I mention WoW as it's one of the more obvious contenders, there are of course other mmos and often usually those are touted for the better to /faaaarrr/ better housing systems. I don't mean to say ffxiv is the only game to ever have an issue. Just in this case, and given other mmos have demonstrated for less issue prone systems, I've no problem saying "this system, I never want to see it again.".

If SE determines it's just too expensive go fix here... Fine I guess, especially if they are going to make another mmo over having this one be the flagship for another 2+ years (what happens at the end of the next expansion, etc), but I still will bang that poor drum until it's dust blown away that the system is poorly implemented and has fundamental issues that simple Band-Aids can never address (And I pray it isn't used again lol).

Add an upgrade to apartments that either doubles the current space or adds a second floor loft. Also add in a "community greenhouse" where you can buy a garden plot. Code it similar to apartments with maybe the option for a couple of outdoor items. I think this would help a lot until a better solution can be found.

But if it is just a ward like any other it feels pretty safe to assume they're not in a hurry to address the housing situation no matter how terrible it is.

I don't know why they're so against instanced housing for everyone, the neighborhoods are neat but they're so dead and empty 90% of the time it might as well be instanced.

Hope was after how bad housing was going in HW's that Shirogane would be the fix. Maybe your right. I just think ishgard is one of those zones that will look better then an old comparable zone but still be the same thing.

I spent 6 hours clicking the plot thousands of times, and the one time I take a 1 minute break, literally 1 minute, someone wins it. They put in chat "poggers" too, so added insult to injury. Hand is killing me, still Goblet plots. Vahlnir, you are right I would keep doing it out of principle, and I will keep doing it out of principle, otherwise this game has wasted my time. Clicked it so many times my shoulder looks like it's starting to kill me too.

The game can sense when you want a plot. I never advise anyone to camp; just occasionally pop into the wards, try to buy an uncamped plot, and go back to playing the game if it doesn’t go through.

Relocation means it’s just not worth the risk to camp if it’s a plot anyone would want to transfer to.

I’ve had a ton of houses over the years due to server transfers and just blowing up the house from an extended time away from the game. I’ve had them on high population servers and low. Just consider finding a plot a daily task like a beastmen daily; page through every ward at the end of the day, walk up to an empty one, and try to buy once.

You can relocate later if you don’t like the spot.

That said the system is very stupid and the price of housing needs to be raised to price more people out of the market. The only reason things are this stupidly competitive is the houses are worth way more than the game is charging.

I might try to pop in in the middle of the night, and find undesirable plots in The Goblet or something. I phsyically and mentally cannot do it another 6 hours. I do not have a second monitor set up (even though I can set it up right now). I saw there for 6 hours clicking it, taking the risk to play videos in the background. I was never super invested to get a house, until after today, and losing it because I decided I needed a 1 minute breather. I'll keep trying, that's for sure.

I definitely agree on pricing, but the whole structure needs to be done better. It is asinine that I have to stand around clicking this thing thousands of times, and I have no idea, or indication when the actual window of purchase will be. No hints, nothing.

That just sounds awful and demotivating

I went to several wards today to look at where the empty plots were and to see if it was a nice area and I didn't see a single soul in the wards in general, much less camping the placards. My MSQ roulette even popped in the middle of it and I ran all of Prae and still didn't see anyone when I got back out.

Anyway, I hope your persistence pays off and you get a house!

Problem is, I don't even actually want a house. I was just going to put all my seasonal decor in random locations. That's not the point though, I just don't want to let the game beat me.

I should correct myself. I want a house, but just to have it.

I totally get it, if I'd been standing there for God knows how many hours I would've kept going until I had one too.

I never really wanted a house either as I didn't want to be shackled to the game indefinitely, I actually bought mine "on accident" sometime last year (saw an empty plot and wanted to see the dreaded placard message I always hear about, and then it was suddenly my plot.)

I suppose realistically I will lose it at some point because I refuse to pay a sub when I'm not playing, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
