Ifrit Spikes

Sorry if this was posted before, but does anyone know if there is a way to determine the sides of the spikes so melee could combo on them? I noticed monk does some really nice damage, but when it comes to those spikes I can never down them because no combos.

Not really. They seem to rotate whenever they spawn, so there is never a fixed direction. Just hope you're lucky each time.

You can tell what direction they are facing, but you need to have your chat log set to show your character's damage. When you hit them with a melee attack it will tell you what side you are attacking from. If you hit it a few times you can tell what all the sides are, although once you find the front or rear you pretty much have everything figured out.

The log will say something like:

Your attack hits the Infernal Nail for X damage.

If it says this you are attacking from the front.

Your attack hits the Infernal Nail from the left/right for X damage.

You are on the side.

Your attack hits the Infernal Nail from the rear for X damage.

You're behind it.

Suirieko is right about them facing a random direction each time though, so make sure you check what side you are on every time before you start combo'ing.

Yeah there was a similar conversation and solution on mnk forums a while ago now. Just have to figure out the way Estellios said. Also wonder if this was intentional or just random code stuff; DDs can't catch a break in Ifrit lol

You say that, but Lancer was the original OP class for that fight and my friend who usually WHMs for Ifrit tried out MNK in it for the first time and complained that Fists of Wind made it too easy to avoid things lol

Yeah it's doable it's just things seemed stacked against them compared to THAUSTACK; sears and crap. I do Ifrit by taking shouts though so DDing him is never going to be an option for me lol.
