Which crafting skills to prioritize in order to craft housing items?

Before you answer "all of them"...

I recently purchased an apartment and I'm very excited about doing things to it. I'm an architect by profession, so even if I end up never using this space, I still have to do this. It's a calling. It's SIMS all over again.

Anyway, now that I've found a reason to level the crafting/gathering skills, I'd like to ask how I should prioritize. I know skills are co-dependent, and thats it's better to craft your own items/components because the prices on the market board are ridiculous. But it's either I find the most relevant skills to prioritize (so I can use them to make gill and then buy what other things I need) or I wait till they are all at level 80. Which is a long time to wait.

I've already started levelling carpenter and botanist since they go hand in hand. It seems alchemist can create lots of plant things and brick items which is a definite yes. Maybe blacksmith (and subsequently miner)?

Or should I level all skills at the same time by chunks; all to 15, then 30, then level 50, etc.

I'd love to hear some suggestions

Armorer is probably the crafting class that is least useful for making housing decorations, but you basically need all of the classes.

My recommendation is to level all the crafting and gathering classes in parallell, keeping them all at roughly the same level.
Reasons for this include - you can then gather all the materials you need for crafts yourself, as well as crafting any and all intermediate materials yourself. No need to buy anything at all from the market board.
You also can share a whole lot of gear between the classes, thus reducing the amount of inventory space needed. For that matter you will be able to craft all the gear needed yourself, saving a bunch of gil from not having to buy it.

Some tips for leveling crafters/gatherers: The daily Grand Company turn ins give a LOT of XP, especially if you turn in HQ items. Very useful all the way up to level cap.
Once unlocked, Custom Deliveries is also a great source of XP. Beast tribe quests (Ixali, Moogles, Namazu, Qitari, Dwarves) don't give quite as much XP, but they still help.
Also don't forget the bonus XP you get the first time you craft/gather a particular item. It adds up. And really don't forget your class quests - you get both gear and lots of XP from those.

The 3 DoH classes I use the most when making housing items are CRP, GSM and ALC though I will use all them except CUL (the CUL made housing items are usually cheap on the MB so easier to buy). MIN and BTN are equally useful for getting materials needed.

Also, most material prices on the MB aren't ridiculous. Many are cheap to the point of being less than it would cost to buy the material from a vendor. Almost all crafted "leveling" materials through Stormblood levels are available from a vendor somewhere - the vendor cost will be listed on the tooltip if you can buy from one. Restricted means beast tribe reputation is required to purchase. If I'm short on materials, I always run by the MB first to check prices before I take the time to go gather or buy from the vendor.

Another thing that's useful is to grow Voidrake and Althyk lavender in flowerpots in your apartment (or garden patch if you get a house). They can be traded at the housing district Material Suppliers for crafting materials (listed under Curious Crop Exchange). Seeds will produce 2 items using normal potting soil or 3 if you use Grade 2 Shroud Topsoil (Grade 3 doesn't increase yield higher), and you can have 2 flowerpots in your apartment.

Maybe the individual item isn't pricy, but when your only option is to buy a stack of 99 it kinda adds up. It's been my experience so far. Thanks for additional tips.

Those stacks of 99 can be a problem if that's all there are but that's also where the vendors come in handy - you can buy exactly the amount you need.

    Good luck with your decorating!
