Why do you play FFXIV?

In all seriousness, I'm glad so many people find the game fun. I was just hoping you guys would be a bit more thoughtful as to why, because I feel that it's important that both we gamers and the developers take it into consideration.

I am still playing/paying because I am under the delusion that I am helping to create a really fantastic game out of a piece of crap.

Unfortunately at times I feel like all they are doing is "polishing a turd" but I still have hopes that a wondrous Phoenix will rise from the ashes of Dalamuds Impact.

I enjoy the game because it gives me the ability to become something I cannot otherwise do in real life.

Would I go march into a dark cave somewhere, surrounded by my friends in arms, of whom I met in random by traveling a unknown realm and walk into the very face of terrifying fiends to slay them, to claim their spoils for my own, in the world offline? Absolutly! But alas, cannot be done. There are other things of conquest that can be compariable, but not the same, will never be the same.

I have always been fond of swords, dragons, high towered keeps and the like and there was a time when shields, swords and castle turrets were the norm. I play the game, for the same reason I read fiction novels, to escape into the world on the pages, or in this case, on the screen and take on a new experience.

Because in a world like this, even the most frail, cowardly or obese person in our world can achieve a level of greatness and be admired by his or her peers by deeds done and spoils earned. Its a great equalizer, no matter your background, ethnicity, religion or the money in your pocket in the real world, you can become something more here.

That to me is enough reason to play.

Denmo was crystal clear in his OP about the sort of input he was looking for lol... lmao,, wth just happened here... talk about a derail. in other words: why read the OP , then completely ignore it by responding with ITS FUN when he respectfully (he explained why) asked for different input?

I use ffxiv as a time sink until diablo 3. Will return when 2.0 comes out in hopes that ffxiv reaches it's true potential.
