Well hmm...i played ffxi since release date up until October 2011 when I decided to come back to ffxiv. I stopped playing because xi started going downhill when abyssea kind of put the game in a direction i don't care for: easy mode.

I play ffxiv because i have very high hopes that 2.0 will give me that same feeling and experience ffxi first gave me. So atm I'm playing to level my crafts and what not before 2.0 comes i am putting a lot of faith in yoshi and his team!

I play this game because there's one thing SE cannot possibly ever mess up and that's immersion. They value detail and creating a world that breathes. I also dream of an MMO that contains both sandbox elements and 'theme park' play are present relatively equally. Where there are new innovations and ways of going through content where I can team up with from all over the world or participate in a smaller but still impactful way.

I think this game has the potential to meet these wishes, I want SE to dream big but also understand players don't accept half baked systems. And that we all want a piece of the pie, let us contribute in our own ways to the bigger picture by adding mini raids/dungeons/games and what not that count toward a bigger element. Like raising fame in a city state has a benefit towards pushing back the Garleans, as an example.

I'd like an environment that makes me go: "Wow that's something else, how beautiful". I'm an explorer at heart and I can't really travel in real life so I like to travel in a virtual world, I'm very much looking forwards to the new maps. <3 I know SE can do this, you have before.

Right now I am playing because I am having genuine fun, have met some nice and fun people too, and there's no other MMO as endearing to me right now aesthetically, which is why I'll always be back more then likely as an FF fan always will...

You know... I've actually came up with no reason at all. I really have no reason to play this game anymore. It's just too laid back. All show, no go.

Because I've played almost every single MMORPG ever released, and very few of them came even close to being as interesting (keyword: interesting, not necessarily fun, but more often than not most were not anywhere near as fun or even challenging/rewarding) as Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV, and even fewer have even remotely been fun (RE: Immersive, Epic, etc.) as FFXI.

I am playing XIV because I am not a fan of Mainstream mmos and abysea killed off what made XI special.

XIV honestly I have to say is subpar in almost every way atm compared to other mmos besides the group focus, but it is also the only mmo released/being released that can possibly be lasting for me.

Depending on how XIV eventully turns out will be what will make my mind up in this game. If 2.0 becomes a solo quest grinder with cheap endgame and shallow content like 95% of mainstream mmos I will quickly leave. If they find a good blend of what made XI special and what keeps the non-gamers happy. And if they make it where I can log in 40hrs a week never taking a break and never get bored I will keep playing it.

Seriously.. that's a poor excuse. This game would be considered just as mainstream today if it hadn't flopped. Do you know that out of nearly 70 members of my LS in FFXI alone, just in my LS alone, 45 or 46 members of my LS left FFXI to go play FFXIV only to come back 2~4 months later and warned everyone to stay away from this game like the plague? In fact it took me 1 year to finally come around and buy the game which was hard since no store was selling it, I had to buy it via EBay.

With that said.. the game is where it is because of the crap start, fact.

The main reason I play (Friends aside), is the anticipation of 2.0 and watching a game go through such radical changes, as extreme as even needing a new client, and an apocalypse-like story that leads to an entirely new world. The world we play on now won't be around for much longer, so it's nice to know I got to experience this world before 2.0. The other main reason I play is because while the game may not be popular, I have high expectations 2.0 will bring in a larger player base and definitely fix many of the issues the game has in it's current state, that being said, I'm using this time to work on getting all Crafts, and Gathering jobs to 50 (All DoM and DoW are 50 already) so I can be ahead of the game when all the returning and new players come for the 2.0 release. Personally I'd rather stick it through the game as it is now and get everything to 50, rather then come back to 2.0 overwhelmed with how behind I am on Jobs so I can hop right into all the new juicy content.

Reasons why i play any MMO:

    1. Sense of progress (basic addiction for any MMO)
    2. Sense of achievement (same)
    3. Social aspect - having great time with friends, instead of for example going out to drink with them IRL i would rather spend time in game doing something challenging and sharing that experience with my friends.

Why do I play this game?

Same reasons + the fact that i'm a FF series fanboy that loves to see how the game evolves, how it grows and becomes better with every patch and believes that soon it will become so awesome that there wont be ppl like you left who don't understand why they should play this game

I play because idealistically I think it's a fun place to have adventure and progress your character and experience the world and other players, but then I log on and feel like I'm just grinding and trying to complete achievements and level up like an OCD person with a stain that won't come out. But I hope one day it becomes something more. And I suppose that's the impetus behind still logging in.
