Apart from the apartment system being improved or adding tons more housing zones it seems difficult to cater to the demand for housing. SE should really make it a priority since for many players it is their priority.

The writing does seem to be on the wall re: Ishgard Housing, yeah. More likely than not they'll adds wards in after the Restoration is over—either in 5.5 or 6.0. Though honestly, I'm kind of hopeful that every player will be getting their own instanced home in lieu of 24 more wards.

SE: *Adds apartments* There, I fixed it.

You know I never understood why ESO topped the rankings for many years on MMO housing until I tried the free play ESO during this Christmas season. You know, I have been doing a lot of housing on ESO. I have several houses there. I have built entire cities inside the lots, and guild halls can be truly magnificent things to behold. I come back to 14 and feel.. sad.
The neighborhood system is nice, and should stay. It's also not a system that works as a housing system for the game as a whole. Apartments are an amazing idea that has truly been squandered. I want instanced housing with locations all over the game.
Let's face it, neighborhoods don't feel communal. The only perks of the ward system is the stables and gardening system which is, for some reason, locked to having a plot. Instead of trying to "fix" the problem by throwing us new wards that get snapped up in 10 minutes, build an instanced housing system that is better and more customizable than what the current housing system has.
I feel you OP. I run a Free Company, and we were able to get a medium in the last housing expansion. Many people did not. I let my personal fall down. It still feels wrong in a have and have not system.
And it opened my eyes lol. FF is so far behind my god. Guild halls are larger than Uldah’s palace. Decorations galore. People created wonderful christmas Polar Express trains with beds and tables in their gardens outside of their guild halls. Houses look like temple to goddesses. Entrances to house through caves l, tunnels and mazes. Waterfalls at your own backyard.
I was an avid house decorator in EQ2 and Wildstar, but after seeing ESO it blew every other game out of the water.

I find that would be an interesting reward, given X investment into the mainstory and perhaps also Y investment into the area then you get to choose a plot. Not to sound anti-social but seeing most of the houses near my area look pretty bad I would actually prefer not to have people as neighbors, at least of the ones I can't choose, lol. If I want to visit a house that's a simple matter and often the house I want to visit is NOT the one near me, so changing zones and finding the location is pretty much always part of the process. The writing does seem to be on the wall re: Ishgard Housing, yeah. I would love if SE makes a dark cloud, animal crossing, other games like it, like experience where you get to organize npcs around your area. Help people move, resolve their problems, etc. I've long thought that could be a wonderfully fun evolution of the reputation system SE has going on (where you turn in rewards weekly and gain their trust), at a certain point you might be able to slot in for certain bonuses / QoL (slap a blacksmith into a building and the building changes and you get a store nearby with perhaps like a bonus to crafting facility within it, etc). For players that already own a house they could always do clever instancing such that those people's houses appear in both locations (with the concept that those houses would naturally have costed more of some sort of investment type).
I reaaaaalllyyy just have no good feelings towards the ward system as is lol. So many problems and losses (like the creativity you see in other MMOs that give more power in a personal instanced space) meanwhile so few benefits of any value (to me personally). Moving from often, my experience, dead, sometimes ugly looking neighborhoods to at least filled with pretty npc neighborhood that I had a hand in would be a large improvement - imo.
ESO blew Wildstar out of the water on housing? Wow, that's pretty big to hear - I might look into it more just out of curiosity. I played the beta way back when and it was alright (obviously no housing back then), just didn't really enjoy the visual presentation and there isn't much to say about story in a beta lol - so I didn't really follow the game outside of when people might mention it (I like to follow other mmos occasionally just to see what is going on outside the walls, and what I think is fair to expect SE to pick up pace on or what they're leading the pack on - while copying everything isn't necessarily expected I think knowing what's going on is important else you can easily get complacent). You know I never understood why ESO topped the rankings for many years on MMO housing until I tried the free play ESO during this Christmas season.

Yeah but what if I'm all about that BiG DaMaGe?
Less joke-y, managing expectations, especially when discussing in a community, isn't a terrible idea lol. (Still allowed to hope of course, but in terms of confirmation... there has been none).
