Coupled with the devs wanting us to heal more, but not increasing the amount, frequency or incentive to heal and that's how we got here.

A bigger change would indeed benefit the role, providing it is change in the right areas. Restoration of lost dps, debuff and buff actions would be a popular and major change, fixing the coremost complaint about healers currently. Many would flock to the role again
A second change to increase incoming damage and mechanics across the board would also help though not as much as the previous one. This would give many of the healing tools some more use and play into the devs desire for healing more. On healer population, it would cause many of the lowest skilled and lazy healers to quit because they can't keep up and/or idling anymore, but it would tempt some healers to return and raise the general quality of healers in duty finder

Ofc, if the devs did both of these things come 6.0, then healing would become a fantastic role it used to be. Easy to learn, but with a good skill ceiling to master, juggling between healing and damaging. Which funnily enough is the style and lore the battle and lore design emphasizes but not the job team. Funny that

One thing to note- pvp and pve healing does tend to be quite different

Sad part is when they released the ShB patch notes many of us keyed in on this exact point and nothing was ever done with it.

You literally have the same filler spell from lvl 4 to lvl 80 with a 30s dot in there as well.

I don't see how that is anyone's definition of "fun".

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

On that, I would like to agree but I don't believe I can give an opinion as I stay far away from pvp in this game and consequently have not touched it since 5.1

I might start healing again, solely in pvp if I could distribute a buff that increased my teammates competence so they don't run off like lemmings or wander round taking screenshots (Yes I actually had this when I was getting Ginga- things like this is one of the reasons I avoid pvp as much as I can)

I find PVP healing is actually fun and quite rewarding when you make a difference, even considering frontline is a complete roll of the dice - i.e. a complete mix of people who don't care about PVP , people who just go for fun, and people who really want to win.

Under normal circumstances, when it comes to PvP in MMORPG's, every class, or job, in our case, is suppoest to be able to defeat any other class/job, some with easier difficulty, and some a little harder.

FFXIV however, does not have that, in 1vs1we got instead ourselves:
-Healing batteries that cant be killed, if played properly. They are also incapable to kill other healers or tanks because of their low damage output.
-"tanks" which have a somewhat mediocre damage potential and the power of gravity on their side (knocking people off the ledge for easy kills). Their defense value is strong enough that any dps that isn't a DRG or maybe NIN too (with ambush advantage) just bites their teeth off when attempting to fight one.
-the DPS jobs, seem so far okay in my textbook, there is still room for improvements, but compared to tanks and healers, theyre better rounded for pvp than those two.
-Potions. Whoever cane up with that idea of adding this skill for every job, should imo be fired asap. This thing drags fights way too long for what they should take and probably "compensate for the fact that some jobs have no self sustainment".
-Skills/Abilities: are too few in Numbers. This isn't Doter2 or League of Lemmings which have their skillsets oversimplified. In order to have a fleshed out Skillset for PvP, all the Jobs (not roles!) need their own way of being able to respond to situations, and have a "fair" weakness, and not just be given your 3 charges of Kool Aid which somehow replenishes itself.
For example, healers should have more damage skills (dots and even telegraphs) and access to status ailments, which is needed to give them not only tools to fight back, but also to give room for casting any spells (in that matter, healers should be "weak" to stunlocks to give room for other jobs to actually be able to penetrate the spam of healing).
In order to do so, the skill purity should become a tank exclusive skill (but have its heal effect removed) which fits more their playstyle, and healers should have more powerful heals for single targets, but it applies a "weary" debuff for a while which reduces the amount of healing recieved, the more you spam it on the same character.

Those are my thoughts on the PvP matter, if you actually read the entire thing, then thanks for doing so, and sorry for it being so long.
