    Exclamation PS5 Controller Support not working on PC

    Hello!

    I just recently got a Duel Sense (Playstation 5) Controller for my PC and have been unable for the last several hours to get it to work on PC. Triangle, Circle, Square and X all have their inputs swapped along side other buttons and the Calibration does not work even though it seems to register the controller working. Nothing I have found yet suggest any ways to fix this for non-steam game (should mention that I do NOT use the Steam version). If there is somehow a fix listed, especially for FFXIV, I have yet to find it.

    Additional info;
    My Xbox One controller does work both wired and wireless, full functionality with no issues.

    I have also tried to use Non-Steam games overlay and it just causes the PS5 Controller to not work at all rather than just bugged.

    No clue if this is on Sony's end or FFXIV's but the fact the controller refuses to allow configuration on PC for FFXIV is bizarre. (Note: I do NOT have a PS5, I just bought the controller for PC.)

    Something I have also noticed though from my own testing; PS4 and PS5 button layouts (buttons 1 - 12 and etc.) seem to register differently on PC... If FFXIV is using PS4 controller index/settings to overlay on PS5 controllers for PC; they are not one in the same which could explain the mixed input issue if the FFXIV did not properly implement drivers/tech for PS5 controllers on PC. Just my two cents.

    As far as I am aware the game does not have official DS5 support, it only supports DS4. The only way you will get it to work properly is to use DS4Windows, or Steams built in support (you will need to run the game through steam though.) The game will register the controller as a XBOX 360 controller, but it will work perfectly and you can just put the button prompts to Playstation buttons in the settings.

    EDIT: If you do not own the Steam version you can still add the game as a non-steam game and use the full functionality of steams DS5 support.

    Already done this actually and it doesn't work. Just tried the DS4 tool as well, same result, doesn't work-- doesn't even register even wired in for the tool.

    I thought the FFXIVteam said they would be supporting PS5 products for the game? Game runs on the PS5 from what I heard but I guess that is just backwards compatibility mode. Hopefully the FFXIVteam and look at officially supporting the controller for PC-- its flat out baffling how different the compatibility for the Duel Sense controller is VS the Duel Shock 4-- PS4 controller has more support on PC than the PS5 one out of the box.

    Hopefully a proper solution can be found soon, I'd love to hear something from the FFXIVteam itself in this regard as I know I am not the only one wanting to use the PS5 controller on PC, especially for FFXIV

    A friend and I found a temporary solution for PS5 controller to get it to work in FFXIV... And I do mean temporary as it still isn't a full on fix and I am not sure how the FFXIV feel about people editing the configuration control just to get something to work properly.

    [-] In the FFXIV documents folder (C:\Users\'YourNameHere'\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn for Windows 10 users) find 'FFXIV.cfg' and open it.

    [-] From there, scroll down to <GamePad Settings> then 'Alias'.

    [-] Change the numbers listed there after 'Alias' (Example: {34,35,32,33,39,38,36,37,43,42,40,41,9,7,6,8,4,45,2,5,47,3,0,1}) to {90,91,88,89,41,40,32,33,73,72,48,49,3,2,1,0,4,6,10,5,7,11,9,8}

    This completely changes the button layout to be the normal default button layout and fixes that issue of buttons being miss-matched and etc... However, what it doesn't fix, and what the FFXIV team still need to look at is; Configuration is still completely broken with the PS5 controller and official support would be much appreciated as the Configuration Doc is more or less a last resort, one that saves and changes often if/when settings are changed-- it could lead to reverting those numbers back or etc.

    So far as I know, that key there is "would be", as in there wasn't a specific date specified. So far as I know, yes, they will be supporting PS5 (and PS5 peripherals). But it wouldn't entirely surprise me if there wasn't official DualSense controller support until there's a proper, official PS5 native client (rather than just running the PS4 one in backwards compatibility mode).

    As noted, though, swapping around the input IDs in the controller configuration should work in the meantime, though it will get reverted by various changes so may need to be periodically reapplied. The Steam overlay should work too, but there are a couple of gotchas... and if you don't have the 'Playstation Controller Configuration' option ticked—which you might only be able get to from the configuration screen in Big Picture mode—it will just fail to work at all.

    (And I'm not 100% certain the current release build of Steam supports DualSense via the overlay, as opposed to the beta build channel of Steam which I can confirm does; I've tested with a DualSense and the beta builds. One of those two—the Playstation Controller Configuration option or the release-vs-beta builds—might be the underlying problem for Steam not mapping it for you.)
