I know the reason, do not agree with said reason that is a different topic. The topic is regarding immersion breaking things and that for me is immersion breaking the reason behind it does not detract from that. That's for a very good reason - a lot of countries have very strict laws against media promoting smoking or even depicting characters smoking. Such media usually end up being classified as 'mature' or at least more restricted access/viewing than media that does not. And when you add in "interactivity" that games naturally are, it normally results in a more restrictive rating due to government perception that in being interactive makes it more appealing to impressionable youth. It's the cause of this similar trope common in children's media.
FFXIV has more or less a "teen-to-adults" rating in most countries so that could potentially cause it to be raised to "adults only", thus eliminating a very large portion of the player base, and thus profits accordingly. I don't agree with it, but I understand why it is so (if you disagree, complain about it to your revelant government agency/politician, not SE, as they're bound by the laws of every country that they allow FFXIV service to).
As for that new outfit, I don't really find it immersion breaking - it actually doesn't look that modern at all, the satchel is a style that has been around for centuries and worn that way accordingly. It's much older than you think. Besides, given we've got players walking around in the likes of frog costumes for instance, I think you can basically throw 'immersion' out the window. Don't like it? Don't wear it, it's as simple as that.
The thing is, and this has been said before, FF14 isn't based on any one time period or culture.
One more that's probably entirely for ratings reasons; there's little to no blood, regardless of how gruesome an injury is supposed to be. Raubahn doesn't bleed when his arm gets lopped off. Teledji Adeledji isn't trailing gore when he gets chopped in half. Zenos doesn't even have a scratch on him after cutting his own throat. Again, it's entirely for the game's rating, but it's a little jarring.
The immersion breaking glamour and such would not bother me nearly so much if 'immersion breaking' was not used as an official reason to avoid giving us certain NPC themed glamour, hairstyles and outfits.
I tend to agree with this. But is there anything similar to the new shorts?
Basically, I had no clue about any new patch items. Since it's all way beyond my level anyway. But I was doing my normal thing in Uldah, and walked passed by a user wearing shorts and sneakers. It caught my eye because I definitely wanted some form of shorts for my character, but more of a fantasy version. And I had never seen anything like shorts or sneakers before. So I was like whoah where you get them shorts and sneakers? And he told me it was brand new gear from the latest patch. OK I indeed already had something close to sneakers which is actually the level 1 mage shoes. And they actually go well the fantasy world. I definitely think those new sneakers he was wearing are too much like modern day real world, and shouldn't be in a fantasy setting. That said, the shorts he was wearing are the only shorts I've seen so far. I haven't seen any other shorts in the game that would be more akin to a fantasy setting. Because I do agree that I'd rather not use immersion breaking gear.
I don't mind this outfit being in the game. What I do mind is it being an outfit tied to Ishgard, the frozen wasteland. Why would this be a reward for an Ishard related whatever? You would literally die if you wore that in Ishgard.
This is the same city where female dragoons wear armor with their bellies exposed. I don't think they've got "winter" entirely figured out. I mean, it's only been (perpetually) five years since the Calamity, right?
There was already a similar thread like this before and I will reply the same. Absolutely NOT! The point of a glamour is not just what one can on see how he/she looks like but how he/she she wants to be seen by the other players. If it is your fantasy/immersion not to see a specific set of glamour doesn't mean that's also the fantasy of other players too. If another player wants a fantasy or an immersion where they can they dress up like someone modern and be seen by others that's their choice. No one should take that choice to other players.Protip: You cannot.
SE, it's time we address the issue that keeps getting worse and worse every patch.
Every patch it seems like my sub money is being wasted on new stuff that just keeps breaking my immersion every time I try to get into this game! I remember why I raid log now, and it's not because of the lack of content, but because of all the immersion breaking stuff that I keep seeing!
I can take the chocobo costume, all the cat girls in school uniforms and 2b legging, but this new glamour just crossed the line! Why adding MODERN CLOTHING to a FANTASY game?! A fanny pack??? Sneakers??? Really??
People keep praising this game for the story, but how can anyone get immersed in it when more and more immersion breaking glamour keeps getting added?!
SE, please give us an option to hide other players glamours and please stop making the problem even worse than it currently is!
"Is adventuring not supposed to be glorious? I thought it was supposed to be glorious." - Vath Deftarm, Dravanian Hinterlands, An Acquired Taste
"That's a fine accomplishment lad. Young and lusty as you are, no doubt you'll achieve much and more in the years to come. I look forward to hearin' all your deeds." - Jonathas, Master of the Rolls, Old Gridania
A simple coat with a hood is the limit for you?
Not giant chocobo heads and people dressing as giant moogles??
All the "casual wear" breaks the immersion but i don't mind too much. I just wish it wasn't something straight out of reality, not all are but it's really close. Something that look more "fantasy" would be nice too imo.
My main problem is : there's way too much of them right now. I really hope gear from dungeons and raids don't start to go for casual look too.
Don't get me wrong it looks good, but it's not what i'm looking for in FFXIV.
And for the " immersion is already broken who cares now " i see being said here and there : IF SOMETHING BREAKS, WHY BREAK IT EVEN MORE?? Just stop lol. "Danm my smartphone is breaking... I don't have money to buy another one, but let's break it even more. "
