We wouldn't miss a single patch but would have the certainty that there was a new online game in development instead of resources going to XVI.
This simply will not happen I'm afraid. FFXIV was already remade once due to an exceptional circumstance (FFXIV 1.0's complete and utter failure and the huge hit to both SE and the FF series's reputation in general it caused) which is no longer a problem. FFXIV ARR is FFXIV-2 (it was literally called 'FFXIV version 2.0' in it's early concepts), and successive expansions have only raised the game's 'version' number up to currently version 5.0.

FFXIV ARR is making a consistant profit for SE and Shadowbringers has been universally lauded as the best expansion for the game yet. SE simply are not going to throw an enormous amount of development resources into the gamble of creating a 'new' version of the game simply to have fancier graphics (even more so given Yoshi's past attitude towards this subject, stating that it was an obsession with high-end graphic fidelity at the expense of everything else being a fundamental problem SE has long had, and which was a major cause of FFXIV's 1.0's failure - "the graphics disease" as I understand he termed it in an interview back in 2012/13ish.).

And lets face it, MMOs' day in the sun has since passed and are no longer considered the 'in-thing' in gaming like they were in the Noughties. No longer are developers obsessed with trying to create a 'WoW-killer' like they were in the late 2000s/first half of the 2010s, as the idea of trying to 'kill' WoW was laughable anyway (although FFXIV ARR did somewhat succeed in giving WoW a bloody nose, a split lip and two black eyes at least). Battle-royale type games like Fortnite, augmented reality/VR games or more asscessible open-world games are considered the current fad for gaming and thus developers like SE will naturally more focus on those styles of games rather than another MMO which cost huge amounts to develop, often don't succeed in at least breaking even on the investment if that, and tend to die a year after birth more often than not.

In a world battling with a global once-in-a-century pandemic and the resulting financial recession it's caused, developers are even more reluctant to spare the cash on uncertain gambles like a new MMO, especially a new version of one that is still making enormous amounts of money and paying for itself several times over in it's present form. In the current climate at least, SE simply are not going to create a 'new FFXIV' or 'new FF MMO', I can pretty much say with conviction for the foreseable future at least, FFXIV and it's predecessor FFXI will sadly remain the only MMORPGs in the FF series.

Well he has my support. While I do wish for sharper textures, I think the gfx as such are fine. Pretty good even for an MMO.
I'd rather have more fun gameplay than more shinies.
