Can we not credit convenient fashion management when Rift was doing it long before GW2? The WoW transmog system is actually a copy and paste feature from Rift. Want to laugh? I remember them saying they would NEVER do a transmog system in WoW because it would water down the RPG elements of the game.
After Rift added like 900k subs in the first month they magically changed their minds on that.

I've been saying that they should offer to buy the tech for a while.
Knowing what magic was done to prevent the multiple hundred items from overwhelming might let them further refine data delivery for other large invintories, letting us have more decorations in homes and yards.

If copying WoW's glamour system can't be done, then as an alternative they should relax the restrictions, particularly with having multiple sets of different types that look almost the same, save for a few color differences or bits and pieces. Here's something I suggested a while back:
I would like glamour restrictions on some gear to be relaxed. For example many gear sets released as a group look very similar, and keeping them for glamour takes up an excessive amount of space if you play multiple jobs. Here is what I propose:
For left-column gear (Head, chest, hands, legs, feet):
Fending, Maiming, Striking, Scouting, and Aiming gear can be displayed by all Disciple of War jobs and classes.
Healing and Casting gear can be displayed by all Disciple of Magic jobs and classes.
Crafting and Gathering gear can be displayed by all Disciple of the Hand and Disciple of the Land classes.
Class/job specific gear (I.e. rewards from completing class/job quest lines) remains restricted to its given class/job.
For right-column gear (Earring, necklace, bracer, rings):
All gear can be displayed regardless of class or job.
For weapons and off-hands:
All restrictions remain as they currently are.
Here's a mockup tooltip I made (Note the change to class/job restrictions, directly under ITEM LEVEL 510):

I don't follow...If copying WoW's glamour system can't be done, then as an alternative they should relax the restrictions, particularly with having multiple sets of different types that look almost the same, save for a few color differences or bits and pieces. How does giving us more glamour options address our space issues? I feel like it would do the opposite.
WoW's system is basically s list of item IDs that you've collected. It's no different than keeping them all in your bank/bags, and in a way it's easier because there's no enchantment or gem data attached.
It's really not difficult to do, yet they can't seem to figure it out.
Then they go and make dungeon sets and crafted sets and mogstation gear and wonder why folks want more space.
Eh, I think SWTOR has the best glamour system. You find a piece of gear, and you can add it to your appearance with no hassle or hoops to jump through. You can do it anywhere in the world while doing anything and equipping a new piece of gear will not override your current look.
When I played WoW I still had to break out my Grand Expedition Yak to talk to the transmog NPC and equipping a new piece of gear still overrode my current look.
In SWTOR, there's none of that. You have different tabs on your character profile to save different looks. Just make whatever look you want and keep on doing whatever it was you were doing. Don't have to have prism or talk to a portable NPC or anything. It's quick, painless and super convenient.
