I always try to have a little bit of background as to who my character is, just to make sure they make sense within the context of the game I'm playing. I generally don't go out of my way to roleplay, though.

The first name comes from what Google tells me is a word for either "river" or "story," and the last comes from my clan of choice in Total War. In a word, he's quixotic - chivalrous and idealistic to the point of parody. He's not from those Raen that we've seen under the sea - I would definitely like to see a more prominent Raen settlement in the future to get a better sense of where my character comes from.

Superhero mmo tend to allow characters to write a backstory as people here are mentioning. BDO does it, and allows family names for your alts. I am not a role playing guy, but I am also not the type of guy who bashes role-players. BDO is only 3rd to WoW and ESO in terms of populace, so role-playing does appear to have a market. I heard ESO was heavy on role-playing.

And speaking of superheroes, The Japanese hero Rock-man X (Or Mega-man X) is my favorite superhero. I would play all the X series games in elementary school. There was a rental shop called "First Stop Video" in my hood. There, I would rent Megaman X games like every other week.......And still get them for my birthday after playing the brakes off of those games lol......K-Mart was also a hot-spot for rentals back then, until we received a local Blockbuster.

I did not know about Blue Mages until FFXI. I played X, but did not consider Kimahri a Blu, because I was unaware of their existence. However, his ability to copy abilities made him my favorite character. Did not go far back into the franchise to play V neither.

Monsuta Man is a homage to Mega-man. That is it. Nothing more, nothing less. I wrote all that $hit to say that....lol........

Blue became my favorite class in XI and XIV, because it resembles the powers of a anime superhero I grew up on in the early 90s.

Vel Kallor, son of Rias and Virina Kallor, father a white mage, mother a master alchemist, late of the Guild in Uldah.

Born in the forests near the city of Gridania ( Virina detested Ishgard and wanted her son raised in peace, far from the eternal bloodshed of war ) , Vel trained at an early age in basic weaponskills, with his schooling alternating between mastery of basic magics, history, aether manipulation and herbalism.

His first tests with the Guild showed a nascent talent, but one that would not manifest itself properly until he was much older. Vel's aetheric skills were tested and assessed each year, the results being communicated to the Guild privately , as they sought to nurture his talents without intervention or interference.

( " I sense much of the healer's gift in him, but he must be allowed to grow as an acorn does to become a mighty oak, the Elements will speak when it is time" - E Sumi Yan )

Until then, his family was bid to continue his education and allow his abilities to grow. Vel had few friends, most of those being Wood Wailers, who accompanied him as he roamed. Even as young as he was, they too sensed his growing power.

Appearing at age 17 for a final assessment, E Sumi-Yan was satisfied with his progress, and sponsored his entry as a newly fledged Conjuror.
