please add a way to transfer items between characters

As it stands, if you want to give an item to an alt, you have only 2 options: be in the same FC and just place the items on the fc chest, or get someone else to trade them between main and alt chars. The first option is not even possible if your alt is in another world server, so most of the time you have to get a friend to help you out.

Which is be fine, if you only have to trade one or two times. However if you need to give more stuff to your alts a bit more often, it gets really annoying really fast. Not only do you have to depend on people being online at the time (which they might not be), but repeatedly asking someone to help you trade stuff is obnoxious for both parties. Especially if you have to trade quite a few items.

As for how to solve the problem, i can think of a couple solutions:
    - Allow us send cross-world mail to our alts.
    - Add a cross-world box somewhere, where you can store a few items and any character linked to your account can pick them up.

Such a feature would be greatly appreciated, even if its only limited to cross-world item trades and not cross-data center.

They don't want us trading items between our alts in the first place. That's why we can't friend them or send them mail. They're not going to make the process easier.

Another method you didn't mention is to list the item on the MB so the other character can buy it, I used to do that all the time before my characters ended up in the same FC. The small amount of gil lost to MB fees wasn't a big deal, and as long as I was listing the item at normal MB prices I didn't need to worry about someone else buying it in the 2 minutes it would take me to log out and get on the other character.

One of the main reasons is you could create a fleet of alts and then use them for bag/storage space, thus reducing the need for extra retainers.
Also, it makes exploitative/RMT activity much easier to carry out.
It makes a controversial method of obtaining housing by one player much more seamless and more annoying for other players, as a rich player can knock out a pile of alts, quickly send each Gil, then have each buy a plot, resulting in one of the big housing complaints of "one player buying up an entire ward" situation. (yes, I know a limit to alts per server, but again it is possible with additional accounts, just pointing out giving the ability to move items and Gil around to alts easily, does create problems)

the thing is people already do this. its not exactly hard to circumvent these limitations and someone can easily create a bunch of alts and put them in the same fc to abuse the fc chest for this purpose. so ultimately this restriction doesnt even stop what its trying to stop and only hurts players that have no intention of doing so.

People like to bring this up as a reason but it's probably not true. It worked like this even at launch when there were only the two initial retainers. The ability to buy more wasn't added until later.

But it still impacts how much storage a single character has easy access to.

I know others have speculated it was to obstruct RMT activity but that doesn't make sense since FC chests and multiple accounts easily get around that.

Hopefully SE re-evaluates things at some point because the restrictions don't appear to accomplish anything other than a creating minor inconvenience.
