I’ve been against removal of restrictions forever.
I also advocate for MORE racial locked or gender locked gear. As long as each gender or race gets equal amounts we would see an increase in variety when viewing a random sample of a crowd.
Restrictions on the individual level only leads to more creativity.

Letting everyone use anything only brings downsides imo

I'm sure that's the intent. I find it pretty cool that one item can look different on different races. As I mentioned earlier in this thread would love to see more not less of this type of thing.

I actually am fine with the race locked, class locked, and gender locked clothing. Although if they removed the restrictions it would not bother me that much (except the artifact type job gear). My main reason for preferring that restrictions remain in place is that removing them, in my opinion, would be another step towards making in-game choices have less value. The deities already don't do anything anymore and if everyone could wear all of the same things it would make the races and gender you picked have less meaning also. I think choices should have benefits and consequences and while you can change them with a fantasia, it has a literal cost attached after the first free one they give you.

The deities have no value specifically because it'd be arbitrary nonsense. Why should I be punished because I prefer my Hyur or Miqo over say, Roe? If anything, that would make your choices have less value on a personal level since now you're choosing based on stats not aesthetic preference. Putting that aside, I find it a tab silly glamour choices need to carry "consequences". That should be for gameplay, be it through story decisions or gameplay. Aesthetic is literally a subjective preference and nothing else.

I agree that gender and race lock are unnecessary and need to go (I realize that it means re-modeling effort). IRL I can wear a dress if I choose to, people might look funny at me but that's it. Our chars should be able to do the same.

I am very much AGAINST lifting job restriction though.
A White mage has about as much use for a Paladin's plate armor as a librarian has for a full military combat outfit.

    Incorrect.
Assuming people won't change the race for a simple outfit, you will get less creativity due to the simple fact that there are less options for each individual to choose from. So instead of 5 different looking Miqo'te in e.g.: Hempen, you get 5 that look the same.

Buddy you've been wearing the same glamour for like, 5 years now. Epitome of creativity right there.

Anyways, as someone above already mentioned, fewer options, fewer permutations.

IMO You should be able to use any equipment you unlocked from any job as a glamour.
I for example want to go as a WHM in paladin armor.
