This seems doubtful, since they've been able to add AST, MCH, DRK, SAM, RDM, DNC and GNB to all existing role-appropriate gear. It can't be based on just role either, since there's no gear which fits all melee dps.

You're right. I was being hyperbolic.
It's not literally impossible, but it's an incredible undertaking and one I never expect to see on a sweeping scale.
