The only things I think should never be gender/race locked are the mog station items.
Every thing else, I don't care either way.

I mean, solid attempt, but you're not really going to get people to stay out of a public forum thread by asking them nicely. I also don't really think you should bar people from talking in certain threads, 'cause y'know, it's a discussion board. Not a "validate my opinion: 2 flavors of thread" board.I feel that I personally don’t always feel comfortable in voicing that because the people who want these changes can be a little argumentative. They don’t get much opposition and I feel that they shout it down if they do. So with respect I’d ask them to stay out of this thread
Yeah, I know this place can feel like a bit of a circlejerk at times, but you're still going to get "the other side" hopping into this thread whether you ask them to or not.
That, and I find this thread more than a bit redundant.
I like gear restrictions.
You're right. I was being hyperbolic.
It's not literally impossible, but it's an incredible undertaking and one I never expect to see on a sweeping scale.
For racial gear:
Old 2.0 code that don't allow for letting certain gear on certain body styles. Same thing that is always holding this game back.
Certain sets clip like hell, racial gear would be worse.
And I support unlocking everything. If you can slaughter voidsent in a frog costume, there's no excuse why a healer can't wear some plate.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
That only works if you live in a lala land where the devs are going to release twice the amount of gear in the same amount of time. Without gender locking they would make ONE version everyone can wear and end it there. That version would prob default to male most all the time because asking every dude in the game to do content for the reward of wearing something like this female version of this outfit would not go over well and would alienate a long amount of the playerbase.Female charcters would still get all the girly shet they got, only that males could also wear it and vice-versa. There have been way to many instances in this game where i have gotten a piece of armor i like and then when i equip it the pants for some obnoxious reason is turned into a skirt. The school outfit is how it should be. Want feminine clothing but playing a male char? No problem. Want masculine clothing but playing a female char? Again no problem.
And funny enough, male characters do in fact get both the male and female versions of the Yohra gear from copied factory, only that the male versions are role and sex locked.
The school outfit is actually a great example of why they don't do this when releasing stuff in game. Like hey, it's great that they made the boy and girl outfit work on both genders! I like that! But ... it's on the mogstation. If you want to mix and match then "TY for paying ...$36!" (If you just wanna buy 1 then "TY for $18!"). They don't get any more money from doing twice the amount of work just to let females have this dapper top and males wear this dress in a completely free in game event. Tis why I'm cool with them slowly having people work in the back ground to get some things to work on the other gender, it takes time and resources to make all this stuff work on a different gender.
Also, the gear in copied factory is gender locked, what you're thinking of is Puppets bunker ... which is mostly male leaning gear or gender natural and the only female leaning gear is still altered for men.

Lala land? They are already releasing twice tha mount of gear in the same amount of time because of genderlocked variants. Neo-Ishgardian rigns a bell? Latest Eden set too.
And another example of them releasing two different armors in the same amount of time! While ignoring the sheer amount of players happy to actually get to wear a pair of skirt as a male character for once as seen with the school outfit. Not to mention the female players being allowed to wear PANTS! Was so unbelivably frustrated when we got that sleek looking scion outfit, only for the pants showing a very clear icon of pants become turned into a skirt...Without gender locking they would make ONE version everyone can wear and end it there. That version would prob default to male most all the time because asking every dude in the game to do content for the reward of wearing something like this female version of this outfit would not go over well and would alienate a long amount of the playerbase.
But ok... let's live in thy lala land and assume we only got one of those set that valentine... aaaand the next valentine we got the other set. There, problem solved and everyone happy. You are making an faulty assumption that the gear would only be made with males in mind.
The payment fee is for the school outfit and most other mogstation content is something i am against. But the cost seems to be the way for gear they "can't" find ways to add to the game because reasons...
And for the nier sets, i was explicitly talking about 2b's outfit where at least female characters are stuck with variants of 2B's outfit while male get both her outfit and a dope looking jacket.
All I really want is the 2020 male valentione set for female.
Are we allowed to say we like hempen gear restrictions and other role specific gear? I do and hope it stays just the way it is and I would really like to see more along the lines of hempen sets for other types of outfits.
You don't seem to get it.
Neo set has a female design and a male design. You seem to think there's a switch they can flip to just make all the male gear work on females or something ... there isn't. Making either design work for the other gender is again "twice the work". If they just made 1 design it would, again, still require them to make it work on every gender/ race combo through QA and such which is really where the time sink goes. That's legit why YP said these are prob the last new races for the game, they can't keep up the pace with which they make gear if they have to QA anymore models with their current pipeline.
Making the gear fit right and look right is what takes time. So ultimately having a female only design and male only design isn't "twice the work" simply because they're different designs.
Think of it this way, if you think of the female Neo gears as it's own thing it's a gear that has to fit 8 models and the male version is a gear that has to fit 8 models. "Fit x number of models" is where the hard part is. If they make a single design that has to fit 16 models it's still designs that has to fit 16 models even if it's the same for both genders. Asking for genderlocks to be removed is asking for the female design to fit and work on 16 models and the male designs to fit and work on 16 models when again "fit x number of models" is the hard part.
There's tons of pants females can wear in this game, don't act obtuse. Not to mention the female players being allowed to wear PANTS!
