So basically, you shoot down Necromancy by saying that black magic is also frowned upon, while also saying that exceptions were made. So...it could still happen by your logic. I think it's unlikely, but you sort of contradicted yourself here.Wouldn't fit. Necromancy is a hanging crime in all of Eorzea. Caught with it, you die. The WoL doesn't make a habit of committing what is seen as capitol crimes. Even black magic is only illegal in Gridania and we have significant reasons to get away with that, there is no defense for corpsemongering.
No, I said black magic is illegal in one place which isn't going to execute someone who is a friend of their allies, that their allies don't outlaw, that kind of thing starts wars among former allies. Necromancy is illegal EVERYWHERE, so an execution on that charge would be uncontested.
EDIT:To be clear.
"You can't punish them for black magic because we don't see it as a crime" vs "Oh, necromancy, punish them or we will."
they kind of hit the nail on the head when they stated its a essentially a capital offense to practice necromancy in the Eorzea. Its not a capital offense to practice Black Magic. However, Gridania frowns heavily on it according to the job quest.
I'm fully aware. But they (the dev team) could still change the circumstances on that at the drop of a hat if they wanted. They probably won't, but it's not impossible either. Their game, their rules. That's the point I'm trying to make.
They technically could but at the same time can't in the same way a major author of a huge book series 'can't' come out and 'Oh I just invalidated entire cultural touchstones of my series world in a sudden way' without being called out on poor writing.
Last I checked being a scam artist as a blue mage could also get you arrested but Eorzea came around to thinking it was a viable job and had virtue.Wouldn't fit. Necromancy is a hanging crime in all of Eorzea. Caught with it, you die. The WoL doesn't make a habit of committing what is seen as capitol crimes. Even black magic is only illegal in Gridania and we have significant reasons to get away with that, there is no defense for corpsemongering.
There is a vast difference between 'scam artist to be told to cut it out or we're gonna put you in jail' 'illegal because of its history in one region' and 'Capitol offense, you will be executed by the state for doing this, in every single part of Eorzea and most nations beyond, all known regions consider it a death penalty to use it' ALSO, see the response above yours.
It'd be cool if it happened.
I like your drawing too~
Unlike most people on this thread, who prefer shooting things down first and then ask the questions, i would support the idea of a necromancer job ( also spare me the lorebreaking hipocrisy when AST has Neutral Sect and WHM going full holy magic instead of getting his nature based spells).
IF we would get said job in this game, squeenix would probably design things, as referenced before, on the FF5 Necromancer job and maybe add some spells from Nybeth from PotD into it.
That would mean using either a rod or a dagger, a scythe is imo way too bulky and too cliche for a Mage that has to stay hidden.
As for abilities, since yoshi p. hates pets and properly working jobs in this game, the skills would be maybe kind of like zombies having to charge their target and then blow up when it comes to the oath skills, a good amount of Dots and debuffs to have some qualities in a Party and of course, healing that comes at a price. A Necromancer would, if it ever would get added into this game, be more of a healer/support job, rather than a dps job.
Thank you for the constructive criticism everyone. However there is one major difference between evil Necromancers and the Shepherds of the Lost that people are misunderstanding.
The Shepherds of the Lost will NEVER raise the dead in terms of bringing someone back from death's domain. That would be robbing their patron. And it is, as said by many, highly frowned upon by Eorzea. The Shepherds do not do it for that reason and punish those who do for whatever reason. What Shepherds do is form an oath with a contracted spirit who is already dead. There is no promise of returning to life. Shepherds use the Oath to save and basically Exorcise spirits that refuse to move on or are chained down by something.
In reference to Anhra's proposal Scythes are more of a personal flavor of my own. I designed the artistic look based on FFV Necromancers for that same reason. However Daggers and Rods are taken by the Ninja Job and Black Mage Job respectively. And since Death is the Shepherds Patron I thought that in homage to him a scythe would likely be the next best tool preferably Battle Scythes, Scythes lacking the harvesting mechanism handle. And lets face it Scythes are BA! Even Number 6 from FF0 used a scythe and had skills based on the Necromancer's Dark Arts if I remember correctly.
Shambling corpses are as Verendal said disgusting and outside the nature of the Hero. But the same could be said for the Dark Knight and its my mainstay Class.
However instead of telling me why it won't work I would love and appreciate suggestions on how it could work. I'll be trying to move this to the proper DPS tab as well for those who are still interested.
