Crashin on Macbook Pro M1

Immediately after launching the application, I see a window pop up for a split second, saying that it's shutting down. I tried reinstalling, fresh rebooting, nothing works so far! I saw others writing how well it's running on their M1 Macbook Pro, so it should work!

Interestingly I am also having this problem.

I currently play on an Intel MBP 16" with Big Sur 11.1 installed. Game works beautifully, have had a couple of crashes here and there.

I recently got a great deal on an open-box Mac Mini M1, installed the game, and it's been running just fine. I played all evening on 12/31, through about 2AM 01/01/2021.

When I attempted to play again on my Mac Mini (M1), I'm getting the exact same issue as above. I was able to run the executable from the contents of the .app and generate an error in the Terminal which indicates there is an issue with WINE pre-loader failing to reserve a range (don't have the exact error on me at the moment as I'm on my Intel mac). I took a look at https://wiki.winehq.org/Preloader_Page_Zero_Problem after light Googling, but couldn't find a good solution for MacOS.

I did attempt to completely delete the game install itself and reinstall with a newly downloaded launcher, however the launcher still fails to load.

I know there's no official support for Big Sur or M1 (and realize that M1 is running through Rosetta 2/WINE), but if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to be able to play on my M1 Mini again!

I have the new MacBook Pro M1 as well with 8GB and the 512SSD.

The game was working beautifully since I got it and then over the holiday weekend, it just stopped working. Same as others have reported that quick box that says it's closing and then nothing. I was getting really great performance stock before and can't find anything either. I've fully uninstalled the game, reset, and even shutdown before starting, and reinstalling the same issue won't start anymore.

I have an iMac with eGPU that I also use to play on BigSur it is an intel i5 with the sonnet puck and the game still works there on Big Sur so I have to imagine it's something in the double-layered translation that is happening or something specific to BigSur and M1 combo. I wish SE would update the BigSur issue since the last notice was back in Nov.

If anyone has had success in troubleshooting let me know. I use macs for work and there are specific programs that are mac only that I need to use (Qlab specifically) in addition to others so switching have yet another computer makes no sense for me as all my other applications work fine and I game mostly on console.

So this gets more interesting!

Yesterday I was able to read a bit deeper into an issue with a previous version of wine that had this pre-loader error on the M1 machines in Big Sur.

Since I have wine installed through homebrew, I simply reinstalled the wine-stable cask, launched the game, and voila! It worked all night again.

Today, when attempting to play the game again, back to the same error. Brief pop-up window that I can't read, when I execute the game in the terminal directly from the contents of the .app, I get the same pre-loader error.

I once again tried reinstalling the wine-stable cask from homebrew, however this time it had no difference, and I am left to wonder what changed between yesterday & today?

The mystery deepens.

...so I've been able to get it working again.

This time I uninstalled wine-stable completely, uninstalled FFXIV completely, then reinstalled FFXIV but did not install wine again. Launched and is working fine.

Probably won't again tomorrow, but we shall see.

So today it's back to the same behavior. Last night I only put the M1 mini to sleep. Started the launcher on my profile, launcher opened fine (usually indicates game will run fine). Logged into another profile on the same machine, launcher won't open. Logged back into my profile, launcher broken again.

So now I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling a few times, and rebooting in between with no success.

Anyone else out there figuring it out? There's definitely something up with wine, but I'm not sure what or how to fix.

So! I got a solution that actually works! Thanks to nexu2 who told me on Reddit!

1. download, install, execute, relaunch and update. From that point on you should have the issue of the application failing to start.

2. go to applications and right-click on the FFXIV app, choose <show package contents>

3. go into SharedSupport -> finalfantasyxiv -> bin and delete the file <wine64-preloader>

Done! Should you have the same problem as me and it still crashes when entering the registration code (first time users), go to MogStation and register there first!
