Best class for solo farming old content.

I assume it's either PLD or RDM.

I want to level a DPS class that's really good for solo farming, but at the same time I do already have a PLD. Is RDM inferior/superior to PLD in any way, or are there other comparable solo DPS I'm missing?

Not really considering limited jobs like BLU.

If you're farming old content, any class is good.

BLU if "old content" in any way entails FATEs through HW (soon to probably also include SB as of 5.45 when they up the level cap to 70).

With really old content sure, but classes with good sustainable self healing can solo a lot more stuff. Best mix of DPS and sustainability usually makes the best solo class.

I assume that makes RDM and PLD the best, but I'm curious if one pulls ahead of the other, or if there's another class I'm missing. Possible WAR, and I guess any Healer if you don't mind very slowly killing things.

PLD can potentially solo much more content than RDM can, so depending on how far you wanna go, that'd definitely be your best option.

However, MCH and DNC are both better for soloing than RDM by virtue of having much more mobility and higher burst potential, because by the time you get to the point where you'd actually need healing (mid-HW content, give or take), you end up taking too much damage from certain mechanics for RDM to sustain you through.

Pld by far the best job for soloing. Rdm is almost as good alternative, so is smn and sch
none can compete at pld's level though due to ease of healing and good damage output

For pretty much all ARR content, any class is viable. The only exception is if you try to solo certain coil turns or second coil(savage). (turn 9 & Turn 9 savage for example, have damage in their final phases that deals exactly 100% of your max HP in damage if you fail it, which is guaranteed due to being solo. As a result, if you don't have an immunity or the ability to constantly shield + heal yourself to full, you automatically wipe if you can't kill the boss before that damage happens.)

For HW dungeons, its mostly the same. Any class is really viable.

If you want to solo HW extreme primals/raid fights/savage fights, PLD bar none. Depending on the fight RDM can clear, but there's plenty of old fights with completely unlivable damage without mitigation (Final Steps of Faith Extreme, Ahk Morn in the final phase will completely annihilate any non-tank class since you're taking an 8-way stack with just 1 person, meaning each hit deals like 50k-70k+ damage and it does the damage 4-6 times in a row rapidly.) (Another example, Zurvan can be solo'd by PLD due to being able to brute force 8 elemental towers exploding, which will insta-gib RDM)

PLD can indeed solo more content than anyone else.

But if you're talking about *farming* old content, you'd likely just do better with whatever dps class you're best at; PLD is a tank after all, so they do far less damage and clear things much more slowly.
Dancer is a reasonable choice if you don't have a preference - the game scales them oddly at levels 50 and 60, so they often do quite a bit of damage in old content. (For instance: one Technical Step completely clears Ser Charibert's "And now, the final curtain..." phase with the 8 fireballs , before the voice-acting is even finished!)

I would say pld followed by rdm.

PLD can heal better then rdm and can take hits alot better. Tank busters are easier to handle on tank.

Warrior is up there if you know how to get the most out of Nascent Flash since you're not losing any dps while healing yourself, but Paladin is also great for cheesing certain mechanics with Hallowed.


It always depends on the fight, if it's "easy" old content then Ninja might be pretty good due to it's increased movement speed and high initial burst damage.
