Please add an emote spam filter.

Thankfully while most people are sensible enough to have emote text turn off, not everyone is as nice. It's really difficult to talk to your friends then have a bunch of randoms come up and start spamming their emotes. Especially now, during the winter season when it's fun to spam throwing snowballs at friends. While I'm glad people are having fun, if I get 200 unrelated emote texts while I'm trying to talk to people, and our messages disappear in the log and we have to chase them down, well, that's not so fun, is it?

I know we can remove emote text from showing in our chatlogs entirely, but that disables our own friends emoting at us, and it's easy to miss things then. I hope you can see why this isn't a solution.

Basically I'm asking you to consider adding a spam filter which forcibly mutes emote text, so when people spam the emote buttons it stops showing them in chat entirely for some seconds. A minute at least, ideally.

Edit: by sensible enough to turn it off I just mean when overusing them, of course. Not for normal emote uses.

    Do what? Turn text off?
In your emote list at the bottom there's a box that says "Display log message." Turn it off.

Alternatively add the motion sub command to the text command. "/throw motion" as an example.

Right, because people are gonna type that in instead of just spamming the existing emote key

It's useful for if you just wanna do an emote or two without also announcing it through chat.
You can do the emote motion only without having to go through a menu to toggle log message off, do the emote, and then toggle log messages back on.

I blist ppl who spam emotes, promote their "fun social cafe" (which are usually brothels from what I have read) and talk in /say. You literally emote or /say more than 3 times in a row and I will right click and blist you. To me it's rude outside of rp areas/servers. But I am also the type who shuts down global chat in games who have it as well since it's usually just atrocious lol

So yeah we could totally use this, or add the ability to blist in instances cause there are times where the same person will shoot off 10+ emotes before the entry gate even goes down.

I don't see how this is related? In general, yes, being able to do motion in text commands would be a neat idea.

However, the issue I'm bringing up isn't me having to open emote log, turn text off, emote, then turn text back on, which is what it sounds like you're trying to point out. The issue is people, random people you don't know, spamming emotes and choking out anything else that is being said or is happening.

These people aren't manually typing in /slap /slap /slap /slap into chat (or using the arrow keys to bring up what was previously typed in, if I truly need to point this out), they're using the emote buttons, possibly even have them on their hotbars specifically so they can spam their friends with it. But if you're in a normal area--and let's exclude cities, as there's lots going on in the cities--or even an instance like

pointed out, this becomes a major issue. This is why I'm asking for an active chat filter.

... But I do type my emotes, and repeating it is as simple as pressing enter, up and enter again.

Eh, I just learned to tune it out. If I go to the market board in Limsa and a bunch of people are emoting at each other I see it as little different to when I go for a walk in the nearby forest and locals greet me and each other in passing. It pretty much only happens in busy areas from what I've seen.

Let's not forget, FFXIV is the only way some people can connect with friends and family right now due to how 2020 has gone so far and there's still no sign of overbearing restrictions being lessened anytime soon in many parts of the world.
