They're such a pain when trying to decorate, I'd love to be able to turn them off, the intrude on the designs you want too

After my FC moved wards we had to do a surprising amount of redecorating because the columns build into the walls in the new zone (we moved from Goblet to Hingashi) didn't match with much of what we had.
At the very least, if they don't let us hide them they could let us choose what columns we want in our house.
I second this. My FC is in Hingashi, and I'm personally not a fan of asian style housing. Wish I could change it to fit better with my high fantasy and Il Mheg inspired ideas for my personal room.
Then why do you not relocate to somewhere else with the FC to something that suit you better? I mean come on... you got the relocation feature, it is just wait and see when something pops up, and then you can skip the wait line by moving your house from Shirogane, to the Lavender Beds or the Mist or whatever suit you build style better.
Because everyone else in the FC wants to be in Shirogane for some reason, and I have no personal house of my own yet. Either way, it would still be a nice option to have. Heck, if the crown moldings and pillars are separate custom options, players could mix and match them to their liking. Then why do you not relocate to somewhere else with the FC to something that suit you better? Then you got a luxury problem, it is really not a matter on where you live, it is a matter on where you can fit in your style better, your FC would not be more or less attractive on as where it is located in the world.Because everyone else in the FC wants to be in Shirogane for some reason, and I have no personal house of my own yet. Go to a place where you feel comfortable.
You can relocate your FC house to another area if you are a leader or got permission to do so... you wont lose your factory work such as airships and submarines.... you wont lose any of the FC apartments either, they just transfer with to the new location.... then it is finding the plot... you probably would see many people camping it put on /busy go click the placecard.... click relocate FC.. and voila, only downside is you need to be able to have room all furniture in the FC into the storage... after that you got your FC house at a new spot.. only downside is you need to re-decorate it.

What if everyone really likes the Gridania wards, but don't like the columns and coving?
What if everyone just wants a different style in their personal rooms?
There are a dozen situations where "just move" can't solve the problem, and OPs fix sounds like a reasonable solution. And being able to remove them outright opens up lots of housing options too.
