Except it's the hunt. You're supposed to hunt the marks, not just wait for a global notification that one has appeared. Those that actually hunt them should be the ones rewarded. If you're able to join in, then that's great.I'd like to see a global call to arms that be selected and checked off for the different ranked bosses that you are interested in. Depending on a hunt discord is not only broken but a pain for the people that always call out in channels. IMO, no game should ever have to depend on a 3rd party platform to seek out or play regular game content.
I am curious: are you in any world or local hunt shells? If so, "it's the hunt" and you shouldn't be.

No, I'm not. Typically if I'm signaled that there's an S Rank, it's from my FC or because I'm already in the zone when someone shouted it. I try to join since it was announced, but if I miss it then it is what it is. I didn't find it, so I have no claim to it or any right to feel entitled about it.
Umm hmm, ok, glad to hear that...No, I'm not. Typically if I'm signaled that there's an S Rank, it's from my FC or because I'm already in the zone when someone shouted it. +1 for this idea or give old Hunts more HP so fights take a few minutes. So frustrating to first switch World Server, then Region and see in all chat "thanks" and boss is already dead. Or add an in-game calender that shows the next Hunt.
It still takes time to find these marks once they've been spawned, adding a 5 min timer before they can be engaged won't change much especially for marks that are on the other side of the map such as Safat that can take several minutes to locate. Some people use third party programs that track hunt marks so this wouldn't deter them from engaging as soon as they can whilst players who don't have trackers are still looking around trying to find it. There's been several griefers on our datacenter that have been stalking websites that mark down and time S ranks and use hunt mark trackers to reach it first, so the moment they see an ARR S rank target marked as up they immediately bee-line to it and kill it as soon as they find it, often before the people who spawned it get there. As it is stated in the ToS it's a bannable offense to use third party programs and these guys who are consistently reaching it immediately in order to grief other players should be reported for cheating since it'll be fairly obvious that they're using third party programs.
I'm more in favour of alternative suggestions such as making A and S elite marks a hunt FATE, this way higher level people will be incapable of soloing them as they will have their level reduced to that of the FATE. Another suggestion which few have commented on and I'm not sure if the game engine is capable of it is to remove the level of the mark and increase its difficulty to reflect the person engaging it, again this would make it unsoloable by higher level people as they would be engaging it as if fighting a monster equal to their level whilst level 50's are still engaging with it as if fighting a level 50.
In the end something really needs to be done to elite hunt marks to make it fair game for everyone to attend because not everyone is considerate enough to wait for others and some do it deliberately out of pure spite and know SE won't do anything about it if they get reported because they're not breaking any game rules.

First in first served just how they are

Here's another problem with that: Say we're at a point where players are leveled high enough that they can singlehandedly kill the lowest-leveled S ranks with a single attack or within a few seconds. This means that even if multiple people are at the hunt mark the moment it spawns, it could become impossible for the damage to be shared, so even being at the rank when it spawns wouldn't guarantee a kill.
This is a good reason why hunt marks should be guaranteed to not be able to receive a killing blow until a short period of time passes, even if it's less than a minute.
It would be easy to troll that then, 'under a minute' is enough time to get an aggro lead, then when its at 0,1% you reset it... would be very annoying
If they could make a submenu entry "Claim the Hunt" on the targetbar of the hunt, then you get the minimal killcredit without even doing a single attack or heal, people could go afk while being at a hunt if they are just going for the achievement and wouldn't need to stay until somebody pulls it in 10min.
But I doubt much will change, as in the past nothing changed
I love this idea!
