Alot of people waiting on the PS3 release played FFXI and don't have a PC to play FFXIV on, these people probably have friends currently playing so they will go where thier friends are, I for one will help my friends when they come, buying some gear, giving them some gil to start off etc so even my server will be beginner friendly for my friends.

It's actually quite a lot more than that.

"This is FFXIV they shouldn't be copying x,y,z MMO." It's been said time and time again, server location isn't XIV's problem.

    I support regional servers.
I support server locations being placed specifically in the region you live in. Aka: Servers in USA/JP/EU not just in JP.
I support international servers for those that want to play on them.
    I support language based servers.

I want to play on a server located in the United States for a few reasons. First, I want to play with people who play on my primary time zone, or the closest ones to it. It makes it easier to schedule raids, events, etc. Second, I want to play with people who speak my primary language. This doesn't make me racist, it simply means I don't speak French, or Japanese, or German. This means I cannot communicate with those people; the auto translate is not a sufficient device to communicate on a fast paced basis. Third, I want my latency to be lowered as best as possible. SE has offices in several places in the United States, I don't see why these places cannot house the servers.

Every other major MMO has regional servers, I fail to see why SE can't accomplish that as well.

In summary, please have a variety of servers both regional and international so players can choose their desired servers at 2.0.

You can't have 20 different kinds of servers. you'll spread the playerbase too thin, and it makes choosing a server that much harder.

EDIT: Made some quick alterations based on subsequent posts.

    Nope, it doesn't.

    1. North America
    2. Asia
    3. Europe
    4. English - North America
    5. English - Europe
    6. German - Europe
    7. French - Europe
    8. Japanese - Asia
    9. International 1 - Located in Americas
    10. International 2 - Located in Europe
    11. International 3 - Located in Asia

Equal to the 11 servers we have now.

I am willing to give Europeans more servers if it means they can play on primary language servers should they choose to. Ragnarok seems to be a success, I see no reason why it couldn't work again in 2.0. If necessary, 5/6/7 could be consolidated into an "EU Languages" server to cut server costs and free up additional server location slots and/or types of servers such as encouraging roleplay.

Also, IP bans or region bans would not be forced on any server, these are simply recommendations to make gameplay more efficient for everyone and their preferred play styles.

There's no reason there can't be NA servers, JP servers, Euro servers, and international servers.

I will play on a NA only server as I do not speak JP, German, French, etc. and preferably this server would be located within North America for the best response time possible.

That's less than the 11 we have now. Just proved it can be done.

So the Canadians have to play on an international server? they arent in US also you would need alot more or you would be forcing people on a server they don't want.

You cannot just designate servers based on region and have the same amount, more JP play than NA, you would need about twice as many JP servers, than NA ones, and more NA play than EU, you would be aiming for twice as many NA servers than EU.

With your idea EU has 3 servers compared to US 1 and JP 1.

Again your idea would have to be changed to at the very least 6 JP servers 4 NA servers and English, German, French servers, all EU servers would be almost dead and NA possibly JP servers would be packed, then come 2.0 with the influx of players we are hoping for only the international servers would be available.

2.0 is likely going to bring in so many new players to the community that it will be like having an entirely new community anyhow. Competent server transfer infrastructure can handle any problems that arise at 2.0.
