    resistance weapon recollection + materia ?

    Hi,
    I have a question about adding materia to a resistance weapon.
    I just got Augmented Akademos (SCH) yesterday and saw that you can upgrade to a recollection weapon (only cosmetic feature: the glowing effect)

    If I add materias on the Augmented version and complete the quests to augment it to the recollection one, will I loose the materias attached to it ?

    You are technically turning in the item to receive a new one so yes the materia would be lost.

    yeah that's what I found out (the hard way) unfortunately. Tried to retrieve a materia VIII but ended up with a V or VI ... ah ah

    Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
    Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
    Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

    That would be materia extraction. I believe Canadane was referring to materia 'retrieval' where you attempt to get back the materia you've melded to the item. With materia VIIIs, this is a 40% success rate. Success rate on extraction is always 100% with the RNG going to the type of materia a fully spirit bonded item will give you. While I have yet to fully spirit bond a resistance weapon, you shouldn't be getting anything lower than grade VIIs from them when you extract the materia.

    So to elaborate on the answer given, you will only lose the melded materia attached to the resistance weapon if: it is still attached when you turn it in (you will be given a confirmation prompt for this), or the materia breaks during the retrieval process. It would be best to at least give yourself a chance at getting the materia back, and turn in the resistance weapon once all the materia is off of it.
