Too much memorization, not enough RNG on raid fights

I have noticed as of late, that a lot of the raid fights are requiring massive amounts of memorization and not enough RNG. While this is great for people with photographic memories, its terrible for people who do not memorize well but have good reflexes. I wish the devs would make more RNG fights that do not consist of a bunch of one shot mechanics if you make a mistake and less repetitive memorization. It would make things a lot more interesting, not to mention more fun... at least... for me.

So in other words...World of Warcraft?

WoW does what I think you are saying. It rewards not just pattern memorization but also a person's ability to get themselves back into a fight. It's way more chaotic but rotations in WoW are a lot simpler to compensate.

I think a WoW style encounter with FFXIV rotations would give people migraines.

this raid tier is actually a very great and refreshing change of pace from this. yes mechanics are scripted in the order they happen, but almost all of them have an element of randomness that keeps every run fresh. e11s is a very reactive fight because of how much variance of this kind there is

I agree so much. I’m fine watching the boss for tells and things but now we’re at the point where I’ll get hit by at least one mechanic, which usually kills me, just because I don’t remember every single thing 25 or so bosses do. Some of them are so random too.

Doesn’t help that everyone is silent too when simply saying blue out red in can stop most of the raid wiping on the first mechanic.

    Rathalos was exactly this.
While I don't expect it'll ever be part of a main raid tier, I do hope they return to this style in some side Trials again.

Yeah, no thanks. Rathalos showed exactly why this doesn't work, you can't dodge mechanics in a split second even if your reflexes allow for it, because the game simply can't handle it.

Instead of dying because you forgot a boss mechanic you will simply die because you dodged the aoe but the server ticks decide you didn't.

Like this aint happening now too.

On topic, yeah, fight scripts in ffxiv need something new. Got a whole different topic about that a while ago, so, not gonna repeat myself.

You don't have to memorize anything. You still react to the mechanics regardless of order.

Even WoW ends up being, stand here, okay dps this, okay move here, now stand here, okay phase 2, stand here, dps this, move here, stand there, now rinse and repeat.

WoW just doesn't telegraph it (But addons do). Once the fights in a new raid in WoW are down on farm, it will always be you doing the exact same thing over and over.

    This.

I don't memorize fights, I just learn what I need to do for each mechanic. Basically the same thing as if fights were rng.
