Game crashes with no warning

Hello, recently I installed ffxiv and it constantly crashes, sometimes after an hour sometimes within seconds. I have this problem with final fantasy only. I have read that it is recommended to install the game on my c: drive but I don´t have that option. Normally this shouldn´t be a problem or?

What I´ve done to fix the problem:
- reinstall the game
- update the graphic driver
- Switch some Graphiccard settings accordingly to other users recommended settings
Unfortunately the game doesn´t write any logfiles during the crashes so I can´t analyze the error

Hello Dynratygus,

First of all thank you for your fast reply.

Answer for your first question:
Graphic driver update and disabling vsync but only after the first crash occurred. Hardware specific changes e. g. Overclocking were not made. Maybe the information that the game crashed just a few minutes after the first start and never run without crashing could help too.

Second Question:
No the Game just closes as it was never running. No error message, no log.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs
3) Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system
4) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
5) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
6) Reinstall the drivers for your graphics card
7) Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything

Hi Rhaervis,

thanks for your answer. I googled and read several threads before posting, so I nearly did every Task you recommended before.

1) I have checked and monitored it while starting the game.
2)I disabled everything that I could. Which also includes all Statuptasks 7) I made a clean boot without any startups that I could disable. I literally had only ff14 and windows based Programs running
3)Never used one. If there are built in things then I don´t know them.
4)I will try this again due to the fact that there are several exe Files and I just did it with ffxivboot.exe
5)I started with everything unplugged exluding Keyboard etc.
6)I reinstalled the whole driver but it didn´t changed anything
7)see 2)

It mainly crashed during video sequences or teleport and if it crashes on a squence, I need to teleport away and back to start it otherwise it crashes instantly again at the same sequence. Besides this all other crashes are just randoms while walking or any other stuff.

No, he was not using it...We found the problem but after 4 weeks of trouble we are out of the game...back to bdo, poe and wow...

It was not a problem with any hardware or something like that.

My solution was:

1. uninstall the game
2. install the game via steam but not start the launcher yet!
3. navigate to the installation folder
4. give all .exe files inside of the boot and game folder admin rights: right click -> select Properties -> click the Compatibility tab -> check the Run this program as an administrator box -> click apply
5. start the game with steam and download the patch
6. enjoy


I guess the problem was a corrupted patch or something like that?

I lost nearly all of my 30 trial days to fix that issue...r.i.p ffxiv
