    [dev1360] Regarding Market Update

First off, I want to say good job for realizing that a synchronized Market between all 3 cities was a great idea. Looking very much forward to this addition. But there lies one other issue many would like to speak about.

Many players (such as myself) felt we were forced to align with Uldah (and its Grand Company) simply because of the fact that the other nations are severely unpopulated due to the main Market Wards are 95% all in Uldah. All players are in Uldah, all shouts for Pick-Up Groups are in Uldah, all Grand Company assistance is in Uldah, etc. In FFXI, changing nations and doing all their story quests was also very fun/enjoyable. I think people would like to do that as well in FFXIV

So what I am wondering is ~ Will there ever be a chance for players to switch their nations / Grand Companies in the future? Especially for those who were seemingly forced to pick Uldah/Flame Company?

I would never say never, but Yoshi has said several times, pick the grand company you enjoy and the one you liked the sound of the most because you will not be able to change grand company. there is even a box now that says so in game, you will be unable to change company once you agree.

As part of transition to 2.0 you might be given a chance to change GCs (given you'll be able to change race and appearance and all), but that would probably be a one-time deal.

And nothing ever required you to join the Flames and start in Ul'Dah to get all of the community support that is in Ul'Dah, you'll just have to go over there to shop of whatever.
I admit I started in Ul'Dah and joined the Flames only because I really liked the cty and I think it's the Eorzean version of Vegas. But you could totally be a gridanian aligned with the Maelstrom and get pretty much all the support that the community offers in Ul'Dah, you'd just need to travel a bit more.

"Pick the one you like cause they will all be the same."

"Just Kidding! Enjoy being in Ul Dah with 99% of the population."

You don't need to go to your grand company that often. There's no reason why you should have felt compelled to align with Ul'dah because of that.

Well the only reason I can see is that a new player wouldn't really know how it worked until after he joined. I just picked maelstrom cuz pirates are boss and the Admiral is a badass, could care less about the quests..they pissed me off anyway bahahaha

Picked Grid and just went to Uldah to do stuff...not sure why you are compelled to join Uldah.

-- A warning is given, in detail, before joining a GC that you can not change afterwards.
-- The GC quest line even goes through the trouble of making you see all 3 GCs forcing you to have an informed opinion of which to choose
-- You can peruse online the list of items available for sale at each GC (in case that sways you)
-- You can peruse online the list of quests/stories available for each GC (in case that sways you)
-- You can see a note from Yoshi saying to choose one you like, not one because of the items/etc. And that you can not change.

There have been oodles of opportunities to choose appropriately.

At the end of the day, aside from storyline, there is no significant downside of any of the GCs. (You are not going to be missing out)

(I think this is the only possible choice one can make that has any effect in game, that one can not go back on).

I think at this point, we have to take 'Personal Responsibility' in having made the choice.

I was gonna join the Maelstrom but changed my mind to the flames in the end. That wasn't due to the population though, just that out of the three cutscenes before you pick your GC, throne for the flames drew me in the most :P...

I don't think anyone was forced to choose Ul'dah as their grand company, doing so just because the marketwards and population were there was a bit short sighted on your behalf perhaps.

It might be a good idea in 2.0 for them to offer a long draw out quest so you can switch GC though, but I don't' think they should make it easy.
