    Market Area Improvements discussion

    [dev1359] Market Area Improvements

    * The following adjustments, scheduled for patch 1.22, are in development and subject to change.

    Patch 1.22 will introduce a number of improvements to market areas.
    The following locations will be added to each city’s market area:
    Limsa Lominsa Mercantile House
    Gridania Mercantile House
    Ul’dah Mercantile House
    In addition, the current item search feature will be moved to the locations mentioned above, and will take place through designated NPCs. This change will allow players to directly purchase items from any city’s market area. For example, a player in Gridania would be able to search for and purchase items from the Ul’dah market area by speaking with an NPC in the Ul’dah Mercantile House.

    “Market Guide” NPCs will be added:

    In addition to using the existing market area entrances, players will be able to speak with “market guides” around town to travel directly to each Mercantile House.

    It will now be possible to search retainer wares by typing item names into the search field.
    * Search results will show all items that start with the entered term.

    Gah, finally, saved me a trip to Uldah, now I can stay in limsa and grind on crafted mats...

    But this makes me wonder... will this move people out of Uldah? If that's what they're planning they're dead wrong.

    Nah, the problem with the huge player concentration in Ul'dah is that there is no "central", non-starter city for everyone to flock to like Jeuno or Aht Urghan in XI. It's gonna take an unaligned, centralized city to get a lot of people out of Ul'dah.

    Depending on multiple airship routes, Ishgard should become the new hangout for everyone, especially if it's going to have it's own Aetheryte plaza.

    What does it matter, if people flock to Uldah, Ishgard or wherever. The problem remains, until it is addressed. Also when is Ishgard due to open. I've been waiting for this for what, 2 years?

    People have already started moving out of Ul Dah, and this will make it a lot easier for them to do so.

    An improvement, to be sure, but it is still sad that the markets are still accessed separately. I think that's due to "server limitations", however.

    The devs said in the past with current system they can't combine all the markets so we can't access one market to do all but I think this patch is temporary fix they found that works till 2.0. I think they tried their best for us on this one.

    I think they found a happy-medium.
    They did not combine all the markets into one seamless view, however, they made it possible to view each of the markets from each of the city. You may have to do three different searches to find something, but you can at least do it from one location.

    I actually think that is perfectly fine, and slightly more realistic than full merge.

    I think it's a *good* thing that there are 3 separate Search Queries (one for each City), as it allows Players to *see* the Top 60 (20 / 20 / 20) of each Item with our current limited Search Functionality.

    Some people have mentioned this before, but one huge problem I see with the future 2.0 Unified Market Ward (where all Retainers are linked in *1* "area") is:

    • How is Yoshida-san planning on granting more visibility for Players and their Items to be sold with *1* (much larger) Market Ward?

    How do you prevent an RMT Corporation or Gil Seller (or just 1 Player) from dominating the Top 20 Search results in a query? For example, right now you can see certain items already dominated by:

    Cobalt Ingots
    abdtdd 199 gil
    abdtdd 199 gil
    abdtdd 199 gil
    abdtdd 199 gil
    abdtdd 199 gil
    abdtdd 199 gil
    abdtdd 199 gil

    Can you imagine how crowded and bad it would be in 2.0 with many more players and just 1 Unified Market Ward?

    I'd be curious to know what Yoshida-san is planning for these issues.

    Especially for Market Dumping and subsequent Price Fixing practices, etc.

    So for now, without any improvements / anti-monopoly safety measures, I'm fine with having 3 Market Wards (that we can search individually all in 1 place). At least we see 60 Results.

    Hopefully we get some improvements to this area in 2.0 as well.

    Thats pretty easy to solve, you just have one retainer have take up one space.

    If the retainer has more than 99 of one item it will just display as 99> (or they could just display the actual amount such as 990)

    So:-
