    Mentorship

I'm a returning player who took a long hiatus some time after the release of Heavensward. Having recently returned to Eorzea, and subsequently being registered in the Novice Network, I've noticed quite a bit on infighting amongst mentors (even between mentors and the very new/returning players they are supposed to be helping), often involving differences in opinions, play styles and unsubstantiated theories.

I logged on today to a virtual "screaming match" between such mentors, which included all kinds of insults and threats to ban one another, etc., rather than open discourse and information sharing, the latter of which I believe was Square-Enix' intent of the mentor program as a whole.

My humble suggestion is this-- To those mentors who find themselves engaging and participating in such counter-productive dissonance, I implore you to ask yourself why you became a mentor in the first place; was it really to help other players, or for status/perks/rewards?

If it is honestly the former, perhaps proactively working on one's own communication/active listening skills (or even disengaging from tense conversations) might be helpful, both to new/returning players, who deserve a welcoming, conducive environment, and for your own sanity. In the case of the latter, I will tell you from today's "discourse" that you are seriously not helping anyone, new players least of all.

Yeah thats pretty par for the course on a lot of mentors.. there are plenty of good ones too but like any group the bad ones are more vocal..

Its one of the reason I don't return to the novice network much anymore.. if players need help they've been PMing me lately or I give active advice in the dungeon or trial im currently in..

Kicking bad mentors an novices from the network is something that's suppose to happen too.. but it rarely happens.. SE also won't do anything about them unless a lot of people all send the same or simular reports.. an even then some are just in it for the crown an not to help do the job they agreed to do.

While NN is certainly a joke in most cases, some servers are worse than others. As a returning player, you might get more enjoyment out of the game by transferring to another server. In some cases, you can do it free of charge depending on world status.
